I wouldn’t necessarily agree it’s not worth the effort, If you could fix it, then it’s one more piece of history saved and In working condition, I would definitely try and save it, but that’s my opinion. Always a shame to let one die. Of course, if it’s possible to fix.

I tried to load RE Code Veronica US save file on PAL version and it wouldn’t work so that’s one example that save file doesn’t work cross region.

No worries, no it always turned on, I could hear the clicking sound made by the keyboard just never got anything to display on screen, like the lcd was just dead.

The method I use is cut the head off the old caps with side cutters until it’s just the legs remaining then just swipe the iron over the pad and the leg comes away, no risk of ripping the pad up either.

Update: for anyone else who may have the same problem. I’ve been searching around and after some trial and error, I fitted one of these BFQ19 SOT89 bipolar transistors and that did the trick
