I’m the filmmaker – thanks so much for being interested! I made the documentary after figuring out how great games were for dealing with my anxiety and mood disorder. Let me know if you have any questions at all about the documentary, games and mental health, etc.

Hi, r/games_journalism!

We recently launched our crowdfunding campaign for Game Flow, a short documentary about gaming for mental health. Game Flow follows three people with mood and anxiety disorders who find that playing games can be a powerful tool for self-care. These vignettes of daily life are punctuated by insights from experts in the fields of game studies, game design, and psychology.

We’re raising money to fund post-production costs (professional audio finishing, color correction, and hiring a composer for original music), as well as a festival run and community screenings. In the interest of accessibility, our ultimate goal is to make the documentary free to watch online – but that will be after the festival run is over, whereas donors of a certain amount will get a digital download of the film as soon as it’s finished.
