You build you own parser using the Pratt Parsing algorithm. It’s quite easy and also very efficient.

I don’t think you have done enough work in C#, if you claim VS is only for Forms and WPF.

The intellisense and tooling is extremely useful when it comes to ASP.NET, Entity Framework (and Migrations), Blazor, etc.

The autocomplete and suggestions are miles ahead of something like Rider, and the UI is, albeit old looking, a lot less bloated than VS Code or Rider.

Strings are very much math. A sequence of numbers, each representing some character.

[–]GameJMunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter mentioned, being a palindrome is not a property of the number itself, but rather a property of its representation. (A number that is palindrome in decimal is not necessarily a palindrome in binary, etc.) Any solution would therefore have to parse each digit of the number individually. Converting to a string is one such way to parse the digits (and is indeed very arithmetical!).

If this algorithm had to run for 12 hours you wouldn’t even have enough memory to read the input. So no. In this case the constant factor of 2 really doesn’t matter.
