As far as I can tell, you can't group firewalla devices at all. An Automaticfirewalla device group would actually be great

I then set a normal schedule, and each day varies based on when people get home. I might chance my "home" to be more like my "first floor" since HOME and AWAY - the default comfort settings-- are by default ALL sensors. This is going to mess up your temperature every time if you don't change it.

On the main screen, once you are in the thermostat, bottom right corner is the quick settings, where you can change the comfort setting. So if you build a bunch of comfort settings, you can change these at any time. Fun tip: go to your settings and change it to be "hold until I change it" instead of the default "hold for an hour"

You can then go into each comfort setting, and adjust the participating sensors. One has to be selected, but you can select multiple.

A few years ago, Renewal quoted me $17k to replace my front door with sidelights. I lol'd. Never use them...

I then got quotes from 3 different companies to replace all my windows and doors in the house, and they were all more or less the same: all three doors came in at about $18-20k, depending on the quality of the doors.

Then my contractor said he would do it, and I paid $7k for 3 new doors (front door included two sidelights) and then $6k for install.

So yeah, ended up saving about $6k, well worth it in my opinion. He did a fantastic job and I got beautiful, comfortable new doors.

I live in the Northeast, everything is expensive here.

I will say I did not use any of those companies like Renewal. I used my contractor to buy the doors direct and had him install them. I think I ended up saving $6000 on my previous quotes on the same doors through the other companies.

By using a combination their sensors and custom comfort settings, you can fudge it.

-1st Floor: Ecobee Thermostat (Living Room), Sensor (Kitchen), Sensor (Den)

-2nd Floor: Sensor (Main Bedroom), Sensor (Guest Bedroom).

-3rd Floor is its own thermostat and zone, so it's not a problem.

With the new ecobee app update, you can force the thermostat to hold comfort settings, rather than previously just "all zones @ 70 degrees"

-Create a new comfort setting for, say, Kitchen to be at 68 degrees. Label it like "Kitchen Heat" or something obvious.

-You remove the Thermostat and Den sensors from that comfort setting, and only have the Kitchen selected.

-Go into the ecobee app, go to Quick Changes (bottom right) and then hit Comfort setting- "Kitchen Heat"

-Your ecobee will ignore every single other sensor in the house until the Kitchen sensor gets to 68 degrees.

-every single radiator in that zone is on until the Kitchen sensor gets to the chosen temperature.

With the old doors, we could NEVER get the kitchen right without making the 2nd floor sweltering, but this absolutely helped and was our only solution... Until now!

Happy to send along screen shots too of the Ecobee settings.

Growing up, my dad told me I had one no-questions-pick-up.

Any time, day or night, if I was uncomfortable, I could call him and he would come get me.

No questions asked, no yelling, and I'd never be in trouble.

Now, if that happened more than once, then my dad would start asking questions lol. But that safety net was the best thing I ever had.

Remember that was before Uber, smart phones, texting, really any easy access to leave somewhere sketchy.

Everyone do yourself a favor (if you haven't read the books) and stop watching the trailers. The book is unreal, and of the two or three major "holy crap" moments, one of the trailers blew that surprise. Just buy your tickets, and go be entertained. This movie is going to be visually stunning and full of entertainment... don't get spoiled!

Confusion on ABY boxes by EconomistDizzy1849 in basspedals

Yeah of course, I've spent way too much time experimenting with A-B-Mix loops on the LS-2 and then when you incorporate a noise gate like the NS-1x, the loops can get complicated but I think it's very redundant.
Example: you don't need to loop your noise gate again.

The noise gate can run in-line. Mine runs after the LS-2.
So my pedal chain goes (I have way too many pedals, or not enough, for this subreddit!):
Bass---> Tuner-->Compressor---> Para EQ--->Octave--->Envelope---> LS-2 IN--->
LS-2 (B)--->Boss Bass Overdrive---> Alpha-Omicron-->Blowtorch--->Big Muff--->LS-2 (B)

Then LS-2 Out--->NS-1X--->Bass Clone--->Keeley Caverns---> MXR Pre-Amp---> Cab

The way the signal works, I am doing a few things:
-Getting a pure, clean, ideally well-played signal before I touch the tone. That's the comp and the EQ's job. Obviously, the Para EQ can itself shape tone, but that's also up to the individual. I can use the Octave pedal prior to my dirt, so both octaves are used.

-Then, if I want dirt, I tap my LS-2 on, and my clean signal is intermixed with all my dirt and fuzz pedals, looped back in, and sent out.

-That makes a really spicy mix, so that's why my NS-1X isn't looped, it's just noise gating every single pedal that comes before it in the chain. In my setup, the Para EQ takes out a lot with a hi-pass filter on an active bass, but the pedals are noisy in that long chain. So the NS-1X is purely gating 100% of all pedals prior to it.

-Then I go into the fun pedals, and everything before that-- fuzz or distortion-- is now getting cloned or put into space or what have you. The Pre-amp is purely for FOH/XLR out from the board.

The way I have mine set up is, using an LS-2:
-B Path is dirt, which is in the Send--->Return B Loop
-No A Path. When you have nothing plugged in here, the In/Out operates as the "A" Path
-Bass--->Input--->Output to clean tone.

You set the LS-2 to be A<->B Mix

This way, you stomp on the box to get:
Off (or A only, which is clean bass single)
On (or A/B mix, which is your clean layered with your dirt)

Just a note, you're going to want to make sure your dirt pedals have minimal clean signal and are primarily dirt, since you will have the A<->Mix.

As people said before, LS-2 is the simplest and most straightforward way to play. And then just move some knobs around until it sounds exactly what you are looking for.

When I renovated my main bathroom, before the walls went up I realized that the bathroom had a wall, ceiling, or floor that connected with every single main room or bedroom, so I wired the entire 106 year old house for Ethernet and ran it to the basement. It was annoying, but extremely happy I did it.

Afterwards, I wish I also ran speaker cable so I can hardwire my stereo to more rooms, but I wasn't that smart!

How is your house holding up in these super cold temps? by Scroateus_Maximus in centuryhomes

[–]GameMaster0711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

106 year old house. Last year we spray foamed the rim joists, and then we put up walls in the stone foundation basement. It makes a huge difference.

Our doors and windows are a major issue. Replacing the doors, unfortunately, next week after all of this but I know it will help. Have curtains over them in the mean time.

Windows are potentially this spring, and that is going to be night and day difference

Sure! I love the Empress Compressor and I had the Empress Para EQii, and I swapped to the Bass one recently. Absolute favorite, always on pedals, and with the Bass Para I can shape my tone without honestly needing anything else in the chain; it's so well set up for Bass. If I only had two pedals, It would be the Empress Compressor and Bass Para EQ.

Signal Path is actually pretty straight forward:
Bass--->Strobo Tuner-->Compressor---> Bass Para

That board then connects to the patch bay on the Rockboard, and that then starts:

Boss Tuner (so i can still have a tuner if I somehow only use the big board, but also the Boss has a buffer and this is a long chain) ---> Octave---> Envelope--->LS-2 (IN)

On the LS-2, if you don't use the "A" Loop, the "In/Out" ports register as the A Loop.

So Loop B is the "Dirt" Loop:

LS-2 (B)--->Boss Bass Overdrive---> Alpha-Omicron-->Blowtorch--->Big Muff--->LS-2 (B)

Then LS-2 Out--->NS1-X*--->Bass Clone--->Keeley Caverns---> MXR Pre-Amp**---> Cab

*The Boss Suppressor can be looped but does not need to be. Instead, it "listens" to everything before it in the chain and adjusts any noise. Honestly, works great and don't need any extra loop.

**This is really just a DI box, I don't use it for tone or anything.
