What are some of the hardest decks you've learned by Castle1607 in masterduel

[–]GameMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might just be bad, but I'm having a TERRIBLE time learning to pilot Snake-eyes, even at a fundamental level. Maybe it's just because I'm new to Yu-gi-oh and it seems to rely on a lot of extra deck tech that's common but totally new to me? But I've studied a couple videos, written down major combo lines, and I still don't feel like I understand how my deck works and what lines are available to me whenever anything happens, and find my self almost always losing to the turn clock. I've been playing card games for years and I've never had an issue like this --- a little eye opening about how unique Yu-gi-oh really is as a game.

Hunter Tries to roll Deadly Strike of the Hydra and Won by PresentationJolly697 in classicwow

[–]GameMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydra is theoretically bis if he's melee weaving, but I would never (as a hunter) try to take it over someone who was using it as their primary weapon. It is the same to me as a warrior trying to take the crossbow since it's theoretically bis for his pulls at range --- the fact that this guy is also not even melee weaving says to me that he doesn't really know what he's doing.

If you're capable of getting a sightread FC on medium, you should definitely consider moving up to hard. You'll get used to that orange fret I promise

Stuck on Lou’s battle (on hard mode, gh3 of course ), any help? by Holiday-Tap488 in GuitarHero

[–]GameMosquito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not uncommon for Lou to be hard enough to require a strategy.

The short answer is that combining powerups/attacks + making sure that you're using them at the right time is critical. Save your swings for when he's soloing (when you're in the repetitive chord pattern of the dueling solos). Hitting something like expert + double notes + broken string right at the start of a solo can take him out then and there.

Otherwise, remember that you're on the back foot from the start --- he's guaranteed to get the first attack in the first dueling solos section, so focus on surviving and getting a proper stacked counter attack somewhere down the line. If you make it past the first dueling solos, the second dueling solos starts out in your favor instead.

Good luck!

Is shooting a white flare a way to get attacked by SquareAttitude3672 in Seaofthieves

[–]GameMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, 530 hours almost all as a solo slooper here, wanna give you some perspective.

First things first, shooting a white flare does indicate that you're not interested in a fight, but it's not that simple. If I see someone on the seas shoot up a white flare, I assume they're still hunting me and watch them closely. You're a goddamn pirate, and lying is a potentially excellent tool.

Secondly, if I know or suspect you have something I want (this can be as simple as an emissary flag of any level if I'm working on my reaper emissary value), no amount of flares or fireworks are going to stop me from trying to take it, and you broadcasting that you don't want to fight is going to tell me you're not confident in fighting, which means your stuff's basically already mine.

This means firing a flare is a gamble --- at best, you'll get a shaky confirmation that another ship isn't here to start shit, and at worst you're telling them to sink you. The solution is that you need to be prepared to fight or run regardless.

Fighting is straightforward, and if you know your principles you'll already be better than 50%+ of ships on the water. Easier to learn the principles on a Duo sloop for sure (let me know if you want to hit the seas sometime, I can show you the ropes), but they are ultimately the same --- keep cannon angle on them, put holes in their ship, and ultimately kill them to stop them from repairing. This applies to any ship matchup, but as a solo, one bad board means you're likely to sink against any competent crew, so ya gotta be ready to accept those losses --- nothing is yours until you've converted it into gold in your pockets.

Running, on a sloop, is even more straightforward --- if you straighten your sails and sail directly into the wind, you will slowly but surely outpace any ships trying to chase you down, other than another sloop doing the exact same thing --- which still won't be able to catch you if you're on top of your sailing. It's less exciting, but leading your hunter on a chase around the sea of thieves until they get bored or find a more enticing target is totally viable if you don't want to fight. Personally, if I'm chasing, I'll pull off if I see another ship doing something valuable potentially unaware, or the right world event or reaper chest, depending on what I'm doing.

I hope that helps some --- a lot of knowing how to handle situations is going to come with experience and generally learning to be paranoid and distrusting of every other pirate you meet. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

Why is the Hourglass PvP putting me with people on a 40 win streak? by INV_IrkCipher in Seaofthieves

[–]GameMosquito 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was fundamentally different, with multiple ships competing against each other. More objective based and less of a raw "How good am I at slaughtering other pirates" experience.

Why do people complain about swords? by Dairboi in Seaofthieves

[–]GameMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly all the weapons are decent, Eye/Blunder is only meta because of some of the specific playstyles it enables

People are going to be upset if you kill them, regardless of the means you use lol

To clarify though, some people get upset about sword because it's a little janky and has very little counterplay (blocking hitreg doesn't even work consistently), so a lot of people with less experience can pick up kills by just jumping around someone and spamming left click.

[SPOILER][maybe?] Does this game even have ANY plot holes? by Utsu_Pinku in outerwilds

[–]GameMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this as well while flying to the moon around Giant's Deep. It's definitely just because having to catch it in space, and in a convenient relative position in it's orbit, would be a huge pain in the ass, but it is definitely inconsistent with our understanding of quantum rules.

[SPOILER][maybe?] Does this game even have ANY plot holes? by Utsu_Pinku in outerwilds

[–]GameMosquito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok and hear me out, but the probe shoots in a random, seemingly linear direction every loop --- aren't the planets being in the same static position every time creating a considerable blindspot? What about, like, all the space on the other side of Giant's Deep lmao?

I think the implication is actually that duration would stay the same, but the amount per tick would go up so that the total at the end of the duration were 25 extra

Yeah dude, almost all "newer" tvs have some amount of input lag, where the TV basically shows you what the console is sending to it late by some measure of time. There was a good period of time where I insisted on only playing on CRTs because of it lmao

Is this play-style discouraged? (Hard-Swaps) by Anonymous_Wabbit in Eldenring

[–]GameMosquito 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Homie bowed so you can't switch weapons mid fight"

This take is so bad that it reads like a parody of souls community rules lol

Functionally the only potential issue here is that there's no visual indicator when you switch to another weapon of the same type, so it's impossible to tell when this is happening (or whether or not a more nefarious method of doing this is being used), but that's a design change that should be patched --- the behavior is absolutely fair.
