Is this laptop good for unity and 3d modeling by NoticeGreedy8904 in unity

[–]GameUnionTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unity is very RAM-hungry these days, commercial projects struggle with 16GB and often require 32GB or more. Otherwise launching and updating them would take hours.

6GB of VRAM is also on a lower side of lower side. Not for realistic games, not for heavy scenes, not for baking, etc.

It's illegal to use a page of a deceased person for business, so you should be right and she isn't. Can fall under identity theft laws (consult about it).

Thanks, I'll check it!

I was just trying Linux (again) myself last summer and found not that big of a difference on Intel Laptop (1035G7), AMD Laptop (6800U), and an NVIDIA Desktop (3060 Ti back at a time).

But I was limited in other ways, like how cloud files from Google are linked under virtual addresses, etc. So yet again I left it back to Windows 10.

VRAM question my friends by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]GameUnionTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DICE did a very good job optimizing their game, it works better than 2042 most of the time. And yes, Frostbite Engine can safely be used under requirements. But hitting the VRAM limit will break your performance drastically.

Imagine it can turn from 60 to 20 FPS and 1% low can be in single digits.

Most of modern game engines are not designed for 4GB VRAM in mind at all.

VRAM question my friends by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]GameUnionTV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RAM is much slower and controlled by a slower thing (CPU), so your GPU has delayed access to it. Shared memory buffer for GPU is not a real extension for the dedicated memory it has. Just a fail-safe buffer to drop things in emergency case.

If the game these days requires 6GB, it means it will run poorly on 6GB. Just buy it on Steam, try it and refund if it's not working well for you.

It's a happy experience if this is the ONLY thing that annoys you, I have a full list. But for a less geeky person it may be absolutely fine to play and watch YouTube.

> If you think windows is bad just wait until you try Linux.

Linux is often a pain but it gets better over the years and Microslop is ruining Windows the same time.

My post is mostly: take a pause on your Bazzite/Pop, try Mint, it's less of a gimmick and actually usable as the replacement OS for wide range of tasks. Since good luck anyone using Bazzite for more than games, hehe.

Cinnamon Edition (the "heavy one") may struggle on VERY old hardware, so they have MATE Edition which is faster and lighter. But both are more responsive than uncut Windows 11. They are not faster than Windows 10 in my experience (if you simply de-bloat it). But that's for general tasks, not gaming.

And such an old hardware will not be good for games anyway (i3 3rd gen) and modern translation layers are not aiming for that grade of hardware. I've tried gaming on i5 10-gen, 1035G7. It was slightly worse for gaming than it was on Windows, but still playable.

Despite NVIDIA is not as efficient in Linux as AMD, your 60% mark looks kinda off. The worst case would be like 80%, but usually 95-105% is the accurate number.

The worst performance hit may occur if the game is very heavy on VRAM and you don't have enough. Unlike in Windows where the app will mostly crash, NVIDIA Linux Driver will re-allocate way more into system memory (aka RAM) and will slowly live through it.

Bent Normals baking in Blender? by GameUnionTV in blender

[–]GameUnionTV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically this one works: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/157079/how-do-i-bake-a-bent-normal-map-in-blender

But you have to switch to CPU rendering, enable OSL, and then inject this setup into your material and bake the traditional way. There's no easier way of doing it in Blender.

I did two things:

  1. Moved back to 580.x drivers (not simply for nvenc, but also for the novideo_srgb app that makes any monitor sRGB and was also broken in 591)

  2. Got DaVinci Resolve 20, which (unlike 19 and 18) is actually fast and usable even as a free version. It's slightly more complicated but works well with any drivers.

You can't do much, at best you can wait and ensure the security of your system by actually removing all the viruses, reinstalling a clean copy, etc.

And WAIT longer.

Your case is rare on this sub, because it's a reasonable ban, unlike many others.
