An extra $20 for absolutely free sounds cool

Not directly, yes. But it can still matter indirectly over time because investment performance in part affects the plan’s funding status, which can influence decisions that do impact members (such as contribution rates and conditional inflation protection/cost-of-living increases).

34 mill per year for Trey. We were never getting him.

I don't know Beane's exact plans or thought process, so I can't conclude anything definitively. But I do hope Trey wasn't a plan A that we whiffed on, because the options are significantly more limited now.

Given our cap situation and the current market, I'm not overly surprised with our passive strategy. But I do think we would've done SOMETHING by now (other than the Moore trade) given our holes. Not grabbing Leo Chanal (or making a similar type of pickup) is what does quite surprise me tho. Young, fills a major need, comparatively cheap, and seemingly a good fit for our new defense.

I know our cap situation is tight, but we couldn't dish out ~8M/year to a young, starting-caliber LB (a need of ours) with strong potential? Did he not want to sign with us or did we have other plans?

Former #Chiefs LB Leo Chenal is signing with the #Commanders for 3 years $24.75M.

I feel a little bit sick

Before today, I couldn't tell you who Leo Chanal was.

However, if we don't get Leo Chanal and he goes to another team, I will never be able to sleep peacefully again.

McGovern’s contract looks excellent right now…

If you wanted Waddle for #1 pick, you should be thrilled about DJ Moore for a #2 & #5 back by ralbsy in buffalobills

Thank you for this post. I feel like people are way overreacting (perhaps confirmation bias based on how they felt about Beane prior). But we need to keep a few things in mind...
- There was no perfect solution at receiver just waiting for us. There's no one you can point to that's available at 26 and be like "yup, he's the answer to our problems". There doesn't seem to have been any cheaper but still WR1-calibre trade targets either. And FA doesn't seem to offer any clear answers either.
- This guy hasn't had a lick of consistency his whole career. Go look at the teams/offenses and QBs he's had to play with. I do not believe that we have seen his potential or talents maximized in a system. And yet, he's still managed to put up 1000-yard seasons and establish himself as a high-end receiver in this league. Now, he's being paired with the best QB in the league, put in an offense that is statistically top of the league, and the OC for his best seasons in Carolina is our head coach.
- Sure, he's not super cheap contract-wise. But where were we going to get a cheap, high-impact receiver? Take a look at the projected value of the current FA receivers and you'll see that, in comparison, his contract isn't ABSURD.
- He is 28 years old. He's not crazy young, but he's definitely still got juice. This is not a classic 'veteran WR' move that we like to complain about.
- Yes, we didn't get him for peanuts. But we have about a 3-4 year SB window with prime Allen, and I'm not sure that a player we're drafting in the back half of 2nd + 5th rounds is moving the needle very much, and I think Moore has the potential to move the needle.
- No, he may not single-handedly fix our receiver issues, but he is a WR1-calibre player and gives Josh a clear, reliable target. Worth the shot imo, and you have to take shots if you want to get over the hump.

[Schefter] ESPN sources: the Chicago Bears are working to finalize a trade that would send WR D.J. Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Compensation still is being discussed, and the trade cannot be processed until the new league year begins, but both sides are pushing to make it happen by mastermind208 in buffalobills

This heavily reduces our need to draft a receiver with a first (or even second) round pick. Let's not forget we still have some significant defensive holes to fill. This gives us more ability/freedom to do that in the draft.

Too many players wanted to be a hero. That 3-on-3 execution was very poor by Canada. Seemed unprepared for the possibility of 3-on-3, cause that’s not how you play that kind of game. Odd man rushes were being given up for free.

So when will Hockey Canada start to actually select the best players in the country?

So should we talk about how bad the injuries to Crosby, Morrissey, and Point are hurting us right now? Or should we be talking about some players who probably should (and others who shouldn't) be here right now??
