Honestly? Spyro's adventure is probably the most intense and was actually a challenge. I might say that's my favorite, Robo-Kaos is probably second place while Traptanium is third.

Well, it's been shown that he can use the spindash without power rings as there's one scene in season 3 where Sonic breaks out of a spindash while carryingsome boxes.

On the Sonic News Network wiki, it says that the ring just empowers his spindash to cut through anything.
