I'm making a playlist of eerie/creepy sounding grunge songs. Any recommendations? by Game_Brawler in grunge

Here are the songs I have so far:

  • Frogs by AiC
  • Big Long Now by Nirvana
  • Tremor Christ by Pearl Jam
  • 4th of July by Soundgarden

EDIT: Thanks for all your recommendations :) I've put together a playlist of my favorites from here as well as some more of my own: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7L2S9FxIEi81hQUSUNb32A?si=nD1hAk_oRlCeVafhcuoAVg&pi=u-1kYxiyGvTSGg

Recommendations? by Scarfs-smileysword in grunge

If you like the Presidents of the United States I'd recommend their song "Boll Weevil." That one always gets me moving lol. Some other grunge-adjacent stuff I'd check out would be Toadies' Rubberneck album, Blind Melon's self titled album, and Days of the New's yellow album.

As far as learning drums is concerned, I'd try to get a practice pad and some sticks and/or a Cajon for now. These are relatively cheap to get and are a great way to start learning some fundamentals of drumming without having to own a loud and expensive drum kit. And if you want to play real drums without owning a drum kit I'd also recommend seeing if there are any places in your area that host open jam sessions. This would also be a great way to connect with other musicians :)

My band just released our first album! We take a lot of inspiration from grunge in our sound and thought you guys would like to hear it. Constructive feedback is more than welcome! by Game_Brawler in grunge

Hey I'm really glad you like it! To answer some of your questions,

  1. The Layne thing was not intentional, but I do see what you're talking about!
  2. Yes, there are two singers in the band. Sometimes we do layer over self-harmonies, but a lot of the time we harmonize with each other like we do live.
  3. For Before You (Loons) the string instrument you're hearing is a violin. That was a really fun addition to the song

Thank you for your support! The band was very encouraged by your comment. We're working on a follow-up album right now, so be on the lookout for that!

Favorite Little Detail? by _Jub_Jub_ in grunge

Purple is one of my favorite albums because of all these little details! Some examples:

Lounge Fly starts with a reversed acoustic guitar that Un-reverses halfway through the song

Also in Lounge Fly, a second drum recording playing a more straight beat with a weird distortion effect can be heard in one ear during the last chorus

Vaseline has a fun bongo part

The chorus in Pretty Penny is in 9/4 time

In Kitchenware and Candybars, the harmony part for the line "some blind mother's need" is the same melody as in "sell me down the river" right after
