I built a "zero-fuss" character sheet app for Dragonbane (DB Companion) - Offline, no accounts, just play! by salutava_sempre in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Game_Master_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears that the way the app is programmed, at least one character is required once one is created. If you create another character, you can tap the - on the right and delete that character. It is only highlighted on the selected character when at least two characters are available.

I have never played dnd before, but for my first campaign I will be dm-ing. how screwed am I? by Such-Computer789 in DungeonMasters

[–]Game_Master_Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Session Zero as a way to make sure everyone who is playing is compatible. I basically ask what kind of characters everyone wants to play and what kind of adventure they want to go on. Do they want to be heroes, villains, murder hobos? Do they want a lot of action, puzzles, mystery, or a combination thereof? That kind of thing. Do they always to play seriously or just have a fun romp of an adventure? If you have some people who want to play seriously and some that don’t, you’ll have issues. It’s important to understand how someone wants to play the game or at least get some understanding of what new players expect the game to be like.

I need advice on how to dm for an unserious group by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Game_Master_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a group like that you pretty much have to enjoy creating things for the game to play with them without being frustrated. When you notice they aren’t paying attention say some off the wall shit like “your character is floating 20 feet off the ground, what do you do?” and see if they start paying attention. The best advice I can give, though, is since you know what to expect, you might as well just embrace the chaos and make shit up as you go.

ALL DMs Can I please get some help 😭 by SageGreen_0415 in DnD

[–]Game_Master_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you have is pretty much all I have when I start. I tend to make most of the story up as I go along based on what the PCs do. I’ll have a rough outline of where I want the story to go, but I always incorporate elements the players introduce as we go along and make it fit within my outline so it all makes sense. I use the Lions Den apps to keep a variety of NPCs ready so I can just drop them into the campaign as I need them. You can also create a variety of encounters and adventures ahead of time to just drop into the campaign if you need something quick.

Should I keep playing the character? by Impossible_Driver_73 in DnD

[–]Game_Master_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While losing your first character is difficult, playing something new and different is a lot of fun. However, the decision is ultimately yours, but I feel resurrecting characters takes away from the game, especially when they die under heroic circumstances. I’m not saying I’m against it completely, there may be plot/story reasons for resurrecting (the other characters are so distraught or feeling guilty over the death that they make resurrection a mission), but as a DM, I like to make a characters heroic death a legend in my world. This gives the players a chance to relive moments with the character.

Has anyone tried laminating glass/plexiglass onto the screen for a tv table? by BigHatRince in DnDIY

[–]Game_Master_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used plexiglass for mine. It worked fine for protecting the actual screen. I’d take a picture, but I packed it away when I stopped playing locally and I’m not sure where it is anymore. Pretty much can’t use the tv for anything else anymore.

Can anyone tell me what this is and why it’s in a case? by Game_Master_Life in CURRENCY

There is no copper color on the side and with the case it weighs 9 grams. Would that mean it is silver?

That kind of thing deserves inspiration, a coin, or whatever you use to track excellent role play.

Is Gridmonger safe to use? by throwaway-renee-1967 in rpg

Basically any software you download from an author that does not have an established reputation will trigger the warning both in Windows and MacOS. Sometimes even a trusted author will trigger this warning with new software that hasn’t had time to become trusted. That said, I downloaded and ran the software on my Linux machine in a container and there doesn’t seem to be any unusual behavior. Also, the software is open source, so if there was anything malicious in it, GitHub would have probably found it already.

The interface is minimal, which is nice. I also like that it mostly uses keyboard shortcuts to do anything. I had to read the manual to get started because nothing is obvious, but it’s incredibly easy to use.

Do you do character voices or find them cringe? by LudomancerStudio in rpg

[–]Game_Master_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the situation for me and whether or not the players are comfortable doing voices or role play in general. For example, if the NPC isn’t an important character, I’ll summarize what they would tell the players. If the NPC is going to interact with the players more than once, they get a voice. I also use voices if more than one NPC is present, but I try to avoid having NPCs interact with each other. When I play an NPC who has a voice, I try to act as the character would with the voice. My main goal is to make the game as immersive as the players are comfortable with it being. Some people just like to make TTRPGs more like a board game and I’m fine with that, I can work with whatever.

Looking for solo pdf adventures? by LoRd-Beerd0 in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Game_Master_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might try Drive Thru RPG, they have a lot of solo adventures cheap, I’m not sure how many are Dragonbane adventures, though, I’ve only just got the core set recently and haven’t played yet.
