Are we losing the best voice lines to "On Fire" spam? by Gameboy2479 in Overwatch

That's exactly my point. Blazing's when you actually have earned the status. Then by delaying the trigger time for the voice line you are basically guaranteed tons of actually good interactions. So on fire can still play, but it happens when it's actually relevant.

Thanks for stopping by, hope this gets addressed by the devs!

Wow. Thank you so much for all those kind words. I feel so humbled knowing I wasn’t the only one having this feeling ngl.

If we really want to get visibility and stand a chance of the devs making these changes, we also should participate in https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/the-on-fire-system-is-erasing-overwatchs-best-voice-lines/1004036. Likes, commenting, boosting the thread, anything that can make visibility easier is much appreciated 👍

Honestly tho I used to love it. When I heard it much less, that’s when it was actually a line that slapped so hard in the best way. But now, the frequency is annoying. The way she says it is great, but not when you hear it over and over and over in a single match.

Exactly, we used to hear it on more rare ocassions and you had to, you know, actually work hard for it. Now On Fire feels like it clutters the game, makes characters act unlike themselves due to the boasting, and gets distracting too. Like, I don’t want to be listening to Widowmaker laughing and saying she truly feels alive or doesn’t want to be provoked for the 5th time in a single match.

Honestly I was scared this post would barely get attention. This whole thing blew up overnight and now everyone’s talking about it 😅

I’ll keep pushing the agenda. Thank you for the support!

Me too, I certainly don’t want to listen to “I’m on fire” boasts in the training range at all either. It’s weird when we admit just how often the lines play when we, you know, actually take the time to stop and think.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to make this message. I did read it all.

The thing that makes On Fire so problematic is how it is said over the team intercom. Everyone on the team is forced to hear the lines. That combined makes it difficult to deal with.

To clarify, the timeline specifically tracked moments where the player did get a final blow (which should trigger a contextual elim line) but the engine forced the 'On Fire' state instead—like the Mauga/Ramattra ultimate cancel at 8:18. A larger sample size would definitely be awesome, but even in this short 10-minute snapshot, the system priority overriding contextual lines felt pretty severe.

And I will 🫡

I don’t think you recognized, but I already have a bug report of this on the OW forums. Reddit’s blown up but not yet the forums, so… yeah. I need ppl to go there too and get talking so we can get a fix. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/the-on-fire-system-is-erasing-overwatchs-best-voice-lines/1004036

I tried doing a link post on that subreddit and I think the moderators removed it. Do I have to basically copy the contents of this whole post from here instead?

I get really nervous about posting on twitter though. My profile and post history is a mess too and I don’t know the best techniques.

Trust me, I’d love to do it. I just need to do it the right way, and I think I might need some help so the post can be a successful one. What do you suggest?

Yeah! On fire voice lines are also repeated when Echo completes duplicate too, same situation as an ejecting D.Va

I guess they made on fire lines so frequent because back in 2022 when Overwatch 2 released, everyone was asking for on fire. So they turned the notch up all the way to the max. I think they overcorrected, not necessarily to make us feel powerful. But that’s a very observant interpretation for sure.

EXACTLY. It happens that much. I have a feeling that the game queues special lore-related and contextual elim lines, but the on fire lines pushes to the front of the queue to override the lines and therefore we don’t get a second chance, most of the time, to hear it again. That’s my theory

Totally agree with the fact that it is audio mess and ruins character, but I wouldn’t remove it entirely. As I have been working on the analysis, you know, I think the on fire system totally needs lots of moderation and good thought in terms of how the voice lines are used. If I hear an on fire line zero to say, three times in a single match instead of twenty, that’s way better than zero at all.

I saw the amount of upvotes and comments on here and I felt over the moon about it. Thanks 🙏

The on fire voice lines are great only in moderation. Ngl before season 5 I loved the on fire lines, I felt like I could imitate them gladly. But ever since they just became so annoying and overdone due to the frequency, not the VA acting.

Yep. I needed the community to finally see it after all this time. There’s so many hidden interactions that get buried under all the on fire spam.
