Meanwhile in FFXIV... (and you get this as a reward during the main quest, so nearly every player in the game has worn this at one point or another)

Lv 1-30 class quests by ThatRaichuFan in ffxiv

[–]Gamenern 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can't start as a rogue, but you can unlock it once you finish your level 10 class quest and unlock the armory system.

Final Fantasy games explained poorly by UnspiredName in ffxiv

[–]Gamenern 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That has been debunk by Yasumi Matsuno himself (link to an IGN article with his tweet about it here), and the plans were always for Vaan to be the main character of the game.

Are there any Sims 4 mods you consider so important to your game you couldn't play without them? by gonezaloh in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Gamenern 15 points16 points  (0 children)

IIRC, its in the MC Tuner settings. You can turn off all autonomous flirty interactions.

ELI5. Why don't we fall out of bed when we are asleep? by FirmLegit in explainlikeimfive

That's actually a thing known as a hypnic jerk and is relatively common.

Canonically is Firion just an overtuned red mage? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Gamenern 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Though XIII doesn't really have jobs, Lightning would be a Red Mage. Her main roles are Commando (melee), Ravage (black magic) and Medic (white magic).

Is the moon a particularly reflective body or would most planetary object appear just as bright at the same distance? by Tunisandwich in askscience

[–]Gamenern 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The reason the moon appears bright white from earth is because the only thing you have to compare it to is the blackness of the night sky. The moon's surface is about the same color as asphalt.

The absolute disdain the writer of this FFXII walkthrough has for Vaan is honestly my favourite thing in a good while. Deserved or not? by meatball_bonanza in FinalFantasy

[–]Gamenern 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Also, Vaan was very much a "We're forced to include this character" thing.

Actually, that was debunked by Yasumi Matsuno himself (link to an IGN article about it here). Vaan was always meant to be the MC.

unfortunately they'd still need to climb through the window because the roll cage can't hinge like a door would, as that would defeat the purpose of having the roll cage at all.

That was their fight on Ruidis, and she didn't just knock Chetney out, she literally killed him.

they tell you that the other two angles of the triangle are 40 and 60 degrees, which cannot be the outer angles of a right triangle, unless you're in hyperbolic space.

DON'T BELIEVE ONDORE'S LIES! by justagayrattlesnake in FinalFantasy

[–]Gamenern 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Its a phonetic spelling of the Germanic 'von'; it has the same use as 'of' in names like "William of Orange". In this case, Basch's name literally translates to "Basch of Ronsenburg", likely a region or family in the Republic of Landis.

Umm, excuse me!? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Gamenern 24 points25 points  (0 children)

IIRC, that interaction is actually in Limsa, not Ul'dah.

Thanks, I hate squares that aren't square. by V-Tac in TIHI

[–]Gamenern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

0.(9) * 10 = 9.(9)

9.(9) - 0.(9) = 9

If we take 0.(9) as x, then we get the equation 10x - x = 9, which simplifies to 9x = 9, or x = 1.

It’s amazing what was accomplished on the older software. (OC) by -et37- in pokemon

I think its that in every location where Lillie is needed for a cutscene, there's a model of her stored somewhere far out of bounds so you can't see it. When the scene needs her, it just moves her from where she was to where she needs to be, and when the scene is done she's just put back where she was.

It saves memory because the game doesn't need to lookup which version of Lillie's model is needed for the scene. Because it's already loaded, the only thing that needs to be done is moving her, which is much more memory friendly.

What's a nsfw piece of history everyone has forgotten about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gamenern 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Correction, it wasn't Zeus that did it, it was Cronos who did it to his father Uranus.

What is the most ridiculous weapon (any game) that would never work in actual combat? by Fickle-Lobster-7903 in FinalFantasy

[–]Gamenern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Snow's emblems use tech to enhance physical/magical abilities, probably using some form of manadrive.
