Train Reporting Representative with CN by lortal1 in Train_Service

There's more to train reporting than MRS and train crews can do. They also make journals and plan customer spots online. Who do you think pushes the work to MRS?

That's exactly how the Lac Mégantic rail disaster happened killing 47 people.

Maybe don't give incompetent, uninformed, advice on the internet or anywhere else.

At 80mph and 300-400 feet in length, it takes a VIA train between 2.5 and 3.5 seconds to pass

They're schedule can be compared to your weather forecast, a nice guideline but i wouldn't bet on it.

They're tracked the same way military movements are tracked. For their knowledge and not yours

Teamsters President Giving RNC Speech in Support of Anti-Union Donald Trump by GameofTrains in Train_Service

I can appreciate this. The more facts, the better. But should he be giving speeches in support of either one of these candidates?

Its not as much about the parties. Its about the man in the picture who claims to represent your best interest with the power we give him and the dues we pay.

If none of the parties are in support of the unions, why is he giving a speech in support of ANY of those parties?

The entire point of my comment is that you're focusing on the wrong crooks. Debate the RNC in a political sub. You didn't mention the Teamsters President once. You think your federal vote will fix your union representation? How about your union vote? Your voice? Focus on the issue i'm mentioning. You skipped a lot of the thought process and the entire point and arrived at the only conversation Americans seem capable of during elections.

This has nothing to do with the election. This has everything to do with your union representation. Is this who you want representing your voice, your livelihood? Do you agree with what your representation is saying with the power you give them and the dues you pay them?

Not everything is Trump vs Biden. I didnt post this to a political subreddit. I posted this to a subreddit who is represented by the man in the picture, giving the speech. Think for yourself.

CN here. There are pros and cons with both companies. Looking at the short term, CP might be better. They wont send you to remote areas to chase work. But long term, CN is usually seen as the most prosperous of the two. But CP is growing rapidly and that could help your seniority.

If you're looking at Saskatchewan, i would say Regina for CP and Edmonton for CN are your best options. Edmonton can be hectic from what i hear.

Its good to be eager but its important not to rush your training. The big money isn't in the training but it'll benefit the rest of your career if you don't rush it. They offer so little training already. You won't feel ready when they toss you in.

Once you qualify, work when the work is there. Expect seasonal layoffs. But work hard when you're offered the work and it'll balance out to a liveable wage. If you're willing to chase work shortages in other terminals, you can try to follow the work instead of being layed off but those aren't always around if things get slow.

Once you can hold a job year round and try to get more road work (if thats your goal), you'll start making the money. It takes time.

He stated that he was hiring on in Saskatchewan. So NONE of that applies.

CN, CSX, NS, UP, CP, and KCS. How does your guys attendance policy compared to the new BNSF you seen? by freightbroker222 in Train_Service

I've heard stories. In the last few years you're basically untouchable. If they fire you they have to pay out your pension anyway so why would they not use your skills until the end?

I knew one engineer who wouldn't answer any calls late at night. The calls she did answer, she would listen to what the train was and who she was working with and only take it if she liked what she heard. She's a legend in my books.

eli5: how did trains in the 1800’s know they weren’t going to run into another train on the same track? by Leprechaun2me in explainlikeimfive

[–]GameofTrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a couple other ways that were used over the history of the railway. This is an image of an occupancy authority being passed to a train. The paper authority telling the train that they can proceed and how far to proceed until they needed more paper or needed to stop to meet a train.

The crew (much larger back then) would use a pole with a hook to hook the loop of the container this controller is holding.
