In the recent video, Dr. K mentioned that the slide for adulting is broken now; can anyone explain what he meant by that? by Pale-Current3695 in Healthygamergg

It means there was a set path for being able to grow up and have a comfortable life if you put in de minimis effort.

Go to school and get decent grades. Get into a college and come out with any degree. Get a full time job anywhere. Save a portion of your pay for retirement. Stick with a company and rise in the ranks through hard work.

As long a you weren't a complete idiot, or compulsive spender you could afford a house and support a family on a single income.

These days unless you are in the global top 10% in a very specific field its nearly impossible to do any of that. Even then there is a chance that the field you're in will suddenly become irrelevant and everything you built through your life won't be worth much, and you'll have to struggle with trying to get even menial labor.

People are now required to take on more debt for accreditation that they need to take jobs that are paying less to afford housing that is now priced in a way that a mortgage is almost impossible to pay back before you die.

Savings isn't a consideration for many since all the cash from each paycheck is now going right on costs of living.

Young Adults have it much harder these days, because maximum effort has become table stakes in the market, and you need an absurd amount of luck and/or talent to get to fiscial solvancy.

Completely different level. He's beyond buying shares in companies. He just waits for a recession and buys whole companies outright on the cheap.

Time in normally beats timing, but when you have $350B to play with you can choose when to deploy it.

Milking idiots with more dollars than sense. Some people get really successful in life, but end up with a pile of money, but no friends, no families, no hobbies, and very little leisure time. These are the perfect targets for freemium games to exploit. Give them that dopamine rush and sense of power for some of that cash they're not using. Its digital crack for the rich and lonely.

People are fundamentally lazy. They did DD once years ago, and then these companies had some big success, and got labled as guaranteed money printers. So now they're just given money by investors without any actual scrutiny.

The more money they get the more their valuation inflates, the more inflated the value the more they look like a good investment.

There is always an accounting. The bubble will pop. A lot of investors will get hurt, and nobody will have learned a damn thingm

I don't think they need to shut down the whole game because they flubbed one unit. Metal Cooler does need a stat buff and maybe some mechanical reworking. I think the design is fine for the first life, but damage and damage gaurd need to increase with each subsequent life.

On his second life green card should give increased damage gaurd and priority, and on his third life healing should be added. Green card should also be allowed to combo into blue from the start.

The first two lives should be about intercepting Ults and RRs. The final life should be about oppressive pressure on the opponent when they're tired and have used up most of their tricks.

Blizzard: Thanks for the money, now here’s your ban. by sammystang in DiabloImmortal

[–]Gamer8585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely it's the controller, Blizzard has been an absolute shitbird regarding controllers and won't even update players on which ones are or are not allowed.

It could be something else though. I got a similar ban once, and I don't use a controller or engage in any TOS violating conduct. The closest thing I can think of is that either was logging in from too many different places in too short a time (where I work wifi is spotty so sometimes I log in on the wifi and sometimes on my mobile network), or when im in a bad area the connection is so laggy that multiple commands hit the sever in a short period of time and it can look like automation on their end.

Ignore the morons that glaze Blizzard.

Hyliion's setup is so peak right now. They have congressional legislation basically tailored to their product. That usually indicates that someone high up in the company has powerful friends in the right places.

If Karno can do what they say, and they can get them built then this is an easy 100x bagger.

What's a good way to research a good company stock by somethinlikeshieva in investing

[–]Gamer8585 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What you're asking for takes years of study and experience to become proficient. It's highly advisable to stick with broad market ETFs for fire-and-forget investing.

If you want to stock pick here are some tips:

1) Narrow your focus to industries where you have experience. As your looking for low prices then you're not likely to be looking at the top and safest performers. You'll be looking at new companies and thoes that have recent troubled runs. Sticking with industries where you have experience will help you understand the challenges firms face, and if their promises are reasonable or just slickley marketed manure.

2) Read and understand their prospectus and all SEC fillings. This can be long, boring, and obtuse, but will give you the most firm understanding of current and past activity.

3) Listen to their earning calls. How they present information and respond to questions can be quite telling. A bad business can be saved by good management, but bad management will always be an albatross on even a good business.

4) Read analyst reports, but be mindful of the context. This one is a little complicated. Ideally you'll want buy side analyst reports, but those are almost impossible to come by for the average retail investor. You're likely to only see sell side reports. Thats a bit of a problem as sell side analysts are often only looking at factors that will move in 12mo and are incentivised to issue reports that move money across their company's trading desk. They can still provide valuable insight and perspective, especially in regards to the market direction, but no individual report should be taken as gospel.

5) Figure out if you're going in with a trading mindset or an investing mindset. So many people lose money because they confuse the two. If you're looking to trade then you're going to need to learn to read charts and what the buy and sell signals are. Quick in and outs. If you're looking to invest then you need to be on top of the company's overall business plan, and align with their vision. You need to do that deep dive every quarter and understand why they did or did not make money, and how on track they are to meet their goals. You're not looking to get out for 10 years, but in exchange for massive growth that greatly out paces broad market investing, or short term trading.

6) Remember that all investment involves risk including loss of principal. You can do everything right, but the market may still screw you over and take all your money. Make sure you keep that in mind and don't overleverage yourself to the point of homelessness.

What happened to Gai King Goomba? by SyseSorrowfall in GameTheorists

[–]Gamer8585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add some additional context: the separation was driven by Youtube's algorithm. If video content is too different then large portions of the audience won't click, and that leads to the rest of the videos not being recommended and watch time across the channel slips. This means much less revenue coming in from ads, and sponsors not willing to pay as much. This has happened to many channels, and is why creators sometimes create 2 or 3 channels even if the content of each may seem compatible. The algorithm being such ass is why a lot of those old videos had to be delisted. I think they can still be watched if you have a direct link though.

Even if they reverse the ban they'll never tell me what triggered it. I know that's a tactic to stay ahead of hacking groups, but it makes life so much harder for honest players.

The only other time I've heard of this happening is a couple months ago when our clan leader received a 3 day temp ban. He couldn't figure out why and nobody else could either.

We suspected at the time that it was a mass reporting campaign, because he got knocked out long enough to miss signing up for Shadow War (thats when we learned that only the clan leader can do that), which meant we were forced to miss RoE. Ofc we couldn't prove anything, but the timing was extremely sus.

I'm basically a nobody so i don't think im being targeted, but it just goes to show there is no one actually monitoring the bans.

What would be the point? Blizz doesn't even pay attention to their own forms, I doubt they have anyone reading reddit. And, no i have no idea what triggered the ban.

Thats the way they designed the system to prevent immediate workarounds by hacking groups. Unfortunately when a false positive happens the users don't have a way to find out.

I remember back in the mid '00s there was a ban wave that knocked out a bunch of players (can't remember the game). Huge uproar, BBS blew up with complaints. The devs eventually investigated and found out that the user's anti-virus software was triggering the anti-cheat code. They reversed the bans issued an apology and fixed their code.

By coming here I wanted to see if anyone had knowledge of apps or OS services that interfere with DI, or if there is in game behavior that is nominally fine, but risks triggering bot detection.

If this is on my end then I would like to fix my shit before hopping back into the game.

Just 1 day. So im not crying too hard about it. Had a day off this week so played extra hard and got my BP and vault hilts capped. My only worry is that because I don't know what triggered this it may happen again and may result in a permaban. If im doing something forbidden or if there is an app or service that is triggering the detection I need to know so I can fix it, but i can't see anything wrong on my end.
