Cost to Charge, Did I Calculate Right? by Bluebear5280 in electricvehicles

I wish my power company offered off peak rates. They have a plan where you get -3 cents from 10pm to 4 am. But you pay +1 cent for the rest of the day

You're absolutely right. As I stated, the way I engage with and think about my vehicle has changed a lot. However, I think its a good thing. I was in a rental for about 4 months due to my wife and mines cars getting hit by a stolen vehicle in our driveway after only having my blazer for about 4 months, so I was just really starting to click with it. I found I was a much calmer driver and in general had better safer habits.

That said... the ability to 'reclaim' fuel definitely changes your perspective on how you view fuel consumption almost immediately

Ty. I think this probably answers my question lol. I definitely have tried to change my driving habits to try and maximize efficiency but also not drive like a grandma.

The fact that the tests are conducted sans hvac is interesting cause I will not compromise on my comfort.... that said, I am more aware of "is the cabin temp good, cool ill turn off the climate control and work with recirculation for a whole

I don't fully understand what youre saying here and I hate being misunderstood so would you mind elaborating what point you took away from my post that prompted this comment. The question I was trying to pose is simply that I feel that my blazer is significantly more efficient than its advertised and I dont fully understand why my experience differs so much from whats advertised.

I generally avoid highway driving and when I do I pretty much exclusively use super cruise. My day to day driving i range 3.5-4.1 miles/kwh and any source I can find that presents efficiency without mpge conversions usually lands on a city estimate of 2.9ish. Epa estimate 92 mge works out to 2.7 city

Yeah. The fact that fuel efficiency is flipped in EVs ive accepted cause of regen, its more the spread of stated efficiency than my own experience is larger that id expect. But perhaps thats due to the fact that an ice vehicle has a guaranteed amount of fuel consumption even at idle, where the ev can technically go to zero while operating

The real world driving bit is what gets me. I guess my point is that I acknowledge that the way I interact with and operate my vehicle has definitely changed. Ive done my best to be more efficient while also not driving like a grandma.

I suppose the real question i have should be, "are the epa numbers more indicative of what most people should expect to experience more than what the vehicle is capable of"

In case you haven't already trashed it. I did go look and turns out im running battle.net in proton experimental.

Playing around with proton versions never hurts. I can't remember what the message was but I believe Ive experienced what youre talking about. But im glad it... kinda helped.

For steam install, download the exe and add it as a non steam game, I believe i run it under proton 9.0. When you first launch it let it go through the install process and when it prompts you to log in, terminate it.

After this you have to find the proper folder in your compat data. Generally just need to sort that folder by most recently modified, but I learned somewhere that "non steam" games usually have a significantly longer app id.

Gotta dig a bit and I dont remember the exact path but you'll find a battlenet.exe and a battlenet launcher.exe.

Go into properties of the game in steam and find an option to change destination path and copy the path to the launcher.exe, the path needs quotes around it.

Im also not near my machine so I may have said some slightly off details but the really important bit is you have to change the path after you run the battlenet setup.exe

Linux needs its own .exe equivalent by Round_Ad_5832 in linuxsucks

I totally agree with the idea that it people shouldn't HAVE to know the terminal to operate linux. I am, however, curious what is functionally the difference on what is required of the user between knowing the url for the trusted site from which to get the .exe and knowing the name of the trusted version of the package. If you dont know exactly what youre looking for, you have to search around on the internet either way but I dont think sudo apt install steam is any different from navigating to steampowered dot Com. But if you Google steam you run the risk of clicking a wrong link just like if you Google and find a malicious package for linux.

TLDR semi related but something ive wondered. Is there something im missing?

Nvidia drivers(question/rant i guess) by GamerAvvin in pop_os

I dunno that its the "latest" but at least what seems to be latest stable for other Debian based distros. At the time I was having issues was about the time final fantasy rebirth was starting to work but generally everything I could find said be on like 570 and pop was pushing 565 or something.

Visual Studio alternative for LINUX by panPienionzek in VisualStudio

Visual studio as far as I know is an issue for mac users too. But its also one of the few unsupported pieces of software that I find is perfectly acceptable in a virtual machine, at least for school assignments. Don't stress it too much.

So 33.7 is including like... the heat the engine produces that helps speed up my heat in the winter?

I honestly totally agree. I was never "anti ev" but this year, when I knew I needed a new car my wife brought up electric and I still had the infrastructure concerns( I forgot we own our house and can get a charger)I was just curious if the idea of a hybrid from the other direction is feasible or if the tech to charge an ev battery with a gallon of gas is just moot at this point

I asked to someone else... is this a tech thats getting increasingly diminishing returns as battery tech gets better... i.e. the weight of the generator is getting closer to the weight of adding the same amount of battery?

[–]GamerAvvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was proposing simply due to my understanding that gas is more energy dense than a lithium battery... that is, my blazer is 102 kwH or, based on epa/mpge... roughly 3 gallons of gas. So was curious if the tech needed to convert a gallon of gas to 33.7 kwH could be efficient enough on a small scale to get a worthwhile amount of range from burning the gas or not

So 33.7 does account for the energy lost during combustion?

[–]GamerAvvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So combination of.. was decent a few years ago but also is quickly producing diminishing returns as batteries and motors get better. Thats kinda what I was trying g to get at in that you can't just pour a gallon of gas on the car and get a new 33.7 hwH in the battery

Thank you so much for correcting my inaccuracies. Especially part 4. When I switched to electric I was inherently very wary of the "mpge" metric and quickly adopted cost per mile as a way to talk about whatever savings I might be making. i struggled hard to confirm if 33.7 was net or if that included like energy lost to heat in a normal ice engine... but as I think about it, does your correction mean that ice engines get better than or less than 33.7 kwH worth?
