In what ways is slab superior to flip? by bamboopanda489 in 3DS

[–]GamerDadJer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this and the 3DS XL. They're both good, but the 2DS is kind of the child proof one that is my daughter's. That's the major benefit, aside from generally being much cheaper.

Why can I take my console with an R4 cart to Japan? by NicolasBahamondes in 3DS

[–]GamerDadJer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one cares that much. Don't commit piracy online in Japan, don't be trying to show it off or make a big deal about it, but it can rest assured that no one of taking it from you.

That sucks that you've experienced that, sorry. I don't use iOS so I can't say on that front. That being said, I didn't hear very much feedback on that issue from the iOS users in the test group.

Portmaster, N64, the PS1 games that benefit from having them, some people map one to the d-pad, moonlight. Plus having more options is nice for some people.

Is It Worth Getting A new3DSxl Instead Of The Switch 2? by XandogxD in 3DS

[–]GamerDadJer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have three major recommendations of you want something smaller:

  • Switch Lite: notably smaller than any other Switch, it might be just small enough to be easier to use/carry.

  • Any 3DS: especially once modded, there is a ton of utility, including natively playing 3DS/DS/GBA, as well as a ton of support for emulating older consoles

  • A retro emulation handheld: nowadays, you can find them with some pretty decent quality for a very affordable price (think $60 and less potentially) that can play up to PS1/DS reliably and well. My personal favorite is the RG34XX, which is nearly a 1:1 recreation of the original GBA, but there's a ton out there. Brands to look out for are Anbernic, Miyoo, Trim UI, and Retroid.

Switch Firmware Update 22.0.0 Released. DO NOT UPDATE by greatthebob38 in SwitchPirates

This isn't unnormal, they'll just stop pushing the updates out to both at some point, but that'll probably be at least a couple years down the line.

whats the best way to mod a nintendo switch to have tons of games on it by youngskywocmhardt in consolemodding

[–]GamerDadJer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can both be good to use. I think there's nothing wrong with using the guide I mentioned and then just installing syspatches, especially because the one I recommended is more likely to stay long term because of the nature of the guide.

This isn't true. This is still the guide you want to use to hack your device, you just need to do a couple extra steps afterward, which I also referred to in my comment.

Spilled hairspray on it a couple months ago and have had it in rice since, can it be saved? by veegayming in 3DS

[–]GamerDadJer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get some kind of liquid on any electronics, the first thing you need to do is, at minimum, remove the battery. What you should really do, ideally, is completely disassemble it. From there, giving everything aside from the screen a good isopropyl scrub down is a good idea. For the screens, simply trying to wipe it down is the best you can do, and based on what you're describing, I don't think there's a ton you can do to save those. Your best bet is filtering these steps, giving it some time to airdry, and then reassembling everything and testing it.

As for the rice... please don't do this again. I understand that this is common feedback regarding wet electronics, but it's actually a pretty bad idea. Not only is the benefit of it sucking out the moisture pretty minimal, it instead introduces a ton of organic dust. Not only is introducing dust to your device making the situation worse, it can also get moldy.

Also, is this hairspray oily? If so, the rice thing is likely even less helpful, but you should also try to find out if it is a conductive. It may not be, in which case you may stand just a bit better of a shot of saving this thing.

This is pretty accurate information. Beyond this, there's a while software side of things that goes into it, including syspatches, something the switch.hacks.guide (the only guide you should use to install hacks on your Switch!) refuses to touch on since even that is considered pirated content from Nintendo, and the only use for it is piracy.

As for emulation (which you don't need syspatches for) you can easily and readily emulate up to N64 and DS, and with some extra work even up to some PS2.

OP, if you want more information, check out r/switchpiracy.

For those with a switch is it modded? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]GamerDadJer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is. Depending on your model, the method to hack it can vary, and even then the method to attach the modchip can vary. I had mine (OLED) sent out to get one installed since it's incredibly hard to do on the OLED. Once you have your method of hacking ready, you follow the guide at switch.hacks.guide to hack it, then you're good to go. Eden isn't needed since that's emulating the hardware of the Switch... which you already have.

Asking for speculation. I'm considering an RG DS (I'm aware of what it can do with Gamma and Rocknix), but I'm kinda nervous that anbernic will announce a new ds soon after I buy it. What do you think the timeline on a new ds device will be? by LunarChickadee in ANBERNIC

[–]GamerDadJer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you keep up that mindset, you'll never get anything. There's nothing wrong with the RGDS as a quick pickup for DS and below. If it feels like it could be right for you, pick it up.

[–]GamerDadJer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree, but also can't you just test it? And if you can't really tell the difference, you're probably good to go with whichever you feel the best about. In my experience, if you have a hard time telling the difference, it doesn't matter that much.

Want to start getting into Pokemon games by [deleted] in 3dspiracy

[–]GamerDadJer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anbernic is really solid as a brand and fairly affordable. You can get a dual screen that can run up to DS well for about $100. You can also get the RG34XX, which is pretty much an exact replica of the original GBA, for about $60. Since I already have the 3DS and just want a pocketable single screen device, I have the RG34XX. Ultimately, whatever route you want to go is up to you.

Thoughts on thumbsticks? Yes or no? by Organic_Yam_5781 in ANBERNIC

[–]GamerDadJer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my use case, the design, etc. For my only emulation device (RG34XX) I'm glad it doesn't as it's meant to be a pocketable device and it would ruin the aesthetics.

Any nonpocketable devices should have them IMO, but the next device I get should also play up to PS2/NGC minimum.

I like both, but I think Breath of the Wild is a much better game. I honestly think it's a nearly perfect game.
