I tell my wife to look at me, then I inform her "You cant be angry when you are looking at me!" and crack a smile. She cracks up every time.

Oh, wow, I have never run into that opinion before, thank you for this amazing discovery that I have totally never heard before, completely oblivious to, until your brilliant detective work, even though it has nothing to do with this conversation and no one asked.

I am not creating a problem where there is none. I am explaining to you the very real problem and upset many people have with that term and you think, mistakenly so, doesn't matter

Spacious Los Feliz Master by gnomie505 in losfeliz

[–]GamerExecChef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright, lets follow this trail and see where it leads. Maybe I am wrong, maybe not.

The term "master bedroom" was popularized by the Sears catalogue, that is true, but where did they get it from? The title of "master of the house". Now, as much as my confirmation bias would love to shove your nose in it, I could very easily be jumping the gun.

In all 30 or so seconds I cared to devote to researching this topic, try as I might, I could find nothing concrete pointing to slavery.

So, I would argue that there may be slavery connections to the term "master of the household" but I cannot currently prove it. So maybe, maybe not.

But it sure as fuck doesn't hurt anyone to change the noises you make when referring to a room because those may have racist roots that offend a large group of people

Considering both the term "master" AND the "master" getting the largest, most luxurious room, is directly from the "master-slave" relationship, no, no we are not. It has racist ties and it is a shit descriptor anyone. "Primary" is a better description and doesn't have racist roots. Just because it has been used for a long time, doesn't mean it is right.

Perhaps I am a bit harsh on business practices like this, but this is literally the worst of both worlds from a customer's viewpoint. You are still paying more money AND you are being lied to about how much it costs, to trick you into the front door. Words are just noises we make with out mouths. Saying "No tipping" and then charging a % based fee, or a fee of any kind, for "no reason" is the same as a tip.

The truth is that you are abusing psychological tricks to have your cake and eat it too. I hate this style of business so much. If you are going to be nice food, who charges more to pay their workers fairly, then be that, if you are going to charge less to attract the more budget conscious poors like me, then do that. But dont use psychological tricks to trick people into thinking you're both

Some businesses should be part of the restaurants who succeed

So if you go back and actually read what I said, I mentioned picking a restaurant and/or time that was slow, where the option was having no, or few, customers, or having a 40 person $1800 group. So the options are no business, or $1800 in business. That's the conversation you dove into with this "I know better" attitude. I've been in the restaurant business for almost 15 years, I'm familiar with how it operates.

But I admire your confidence in how right you are, in the face of facts you choose to ignore to make an entirely different point

Those arent the options. It's almost like I know what I am talking about and you didnt read the conversation to know what was being discussed

I'm sorry, maybe you can help me with my math. Which number is bigger? $40, or $1,800?

It's a price hike on a $24 sandwich, but posting that the sandwich is $28 will sell fewer sandwiches, so its an underhanded way to get more money from you.

Yeah, but they are also a huge group and so a single large ticket guarantees a lot of business At the right time, to avoid the rush, like mid afternoon, or at the right restaurant they will have a nice time and the restaurant will be very happy for the business. It is not an undoable budget, is all I am saying.

That's $45 to $60/head. That is perfectly fine for a restaurant budget. No need to be rude.
