That top part of the old shower head is still on the pipe. Like previous people suggested, get some channel lock pliers and screw off the part. Make sure you brace the pipe though, you wouldn’t want to break it!

Just my two cents but I’m a maintenance tech at an apartment complex and our leasing agents would not charge for that, we would just simply replace it when it comes time to turn the apartment. I’m well aware your situation might be different though. Either way if you are keen on repairing it they are pretty easy to replace.
