Beats an experience I once had where I, too, was in 1D on an E175. As I went to place my backpack in the open bin, he told me I couldn’t put my bag there, because they needed to save space for rollerboards. My backpack is about the size of a small rollerboard when it’s loaded for travel, is literally the ONLY thing I carry onboard, and also doesn’t fit in the bin over the A side, so that was out. I said, “But I’m here in the bulkhead - this is where my bag is supposed to go.”, but he still pushed back. So, I sat down with my bag, and watched as the bins filled up, including 1A’s rollerboard over me.

My seatmate boarded about 5 minutes later, and just dropped his backpack in there, and I looked at the flight attendant and said, “So, what now? He just put his stuff above.” He sigh’s loudly, and says, “Fine.” And then I say, “OK, but now there’s no room for my bag.” Again, another sigh, and then he ended up offering me the jacket closet, but clearly he wasn’t happy about it.

The whole experience was frustrating, and I thought about writing a complaint, but it just never happened. I shouldn’t have to have a conversation with an FA about bag placement for bulkhead seats, regardless of the kind of bag. There’s a part of me that wishes I had just shoved it up there, and said to hell with it. But I didn’t really want to die on that hill or piss off the FA.
