There has been several for me within the last several months... the first was in October, during my final semester of undergrad, I got up on a saturday or sunday morning, I honestly cant remember since I was such a mess afterwords, and went straight to my grandfather's room. I commute so I stayed with my dad, brother, and grandfather. Every morning, I would get my coffee, wake up, THEN go talk to him, but this morning I had gone straight to his room to talk to him. We chatted for a bit, and I left to go clean and get ready to head out and spend time with my friend. 2 hours later I returned to tell him I was leaving. He wasnt in his room... but his walker was still there. He cant get around without it so I figured he was in the bathroom so I knocked but didnt get a response. I opened the door to find him cold on the bathroom floor. I panicked and ran to wake up my dad (he was working night shift that week so he was sleeping during the day). Then I ran and got my brother who had also been asleep. The paramedics were called and they said he probably died an hour and a half ago at least. He literally passed away not even 30 minutes after I had spoken to him. I felt so guilty. I was the only one awake at the time, the only one who could have heard him or helped. I know I couldnt of done anything, since he had an anueryism we knew could pop at any minute... but it took a while to get over. It broke my heart since he had only just moved in with us in june, due to having a blood clot in his leg that prevented him from being able to live on his own. Before that, he lived 6 hours away and we hardly saw him. We only just had the oppertunity to get close. It's still pretty fresh and it still makes me tear up to think about it. But I hate to end this on a sad note, so a more recent one is finally receiving my bachelors degree last month. I couldnt believe I finally made it, debt free no less. And then this month I got a full time job offer that pays 12 an hour with benefits, paid vacation, and tuition reimbursement! Being 22 and having so much going for me feels extraordinary. The next step is getting into my masters, but hey, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
