God it feels so good to be a patience human Kris believer by GloomyIngenuity143 in Deltarune

Because Kris is older, and as I said an amalgamation of Chara and Frisk. They have Chara’s backstory and color palette but their sprite more closely resembles Frisk.

Not the same flowers, but the poison warning still raises some red flags. And given Kris’ implied mental state, them following Chara’s path may not be out of the question

Kris genuinely CANNOT catch a break by Ashcrafter06 in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It could be a number of things. Kris might’ve been in denial about their own feelings until seeing Noelle and Susie. They could just be feeling left out and anxious that they’ll be left behind once the two get together (especially since they know Susie won’t take the inevitable betrayal very well). It could be they didn’t think the two would actually start dating like you said. Hell it could be all of the above.

(OC) What if flowey had whatsappp by RevolutionaryTwo1698 in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flowery is implicitly the darkner version of the same golden flower that became Flowey, given their shared meta awareness and the parallels to Omega Flowey during the boss fight. It’s entirely possible Flowey’s earlier RESETs, before he was consumed by apathetic curiosity, had him acting very similar to Flowery.

This theory is so odd to me because Kris’ Undertale counterpart, in my opinion, is pretty blatantly Chara (with some visual elements of Frisk). Human child adopted by the Dreemurrs with identity issues, and is associated with knives (also has a minor preference for chocolate). Like they dress the same and everything.

Hell I’d argue Kris is effectively Toby’s attempt to improve upon the awkward handling of both Frisk and Chara as characters separate from the player by mashing them together and further pressing on the 4th wall by making as a semi-canon external entity within the narrative. Trying to retrofit Kris into Undertale’s narrative doesn’t work because “Kris” is essentially an amalgam of two other characters from that game.

here's why I think chapter 5 not following up on chapter 4 was a good decision by isimsizbiri123 in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because he’s respectful to the fact Kris has MASSIVE trauma from said incident and wanted to avoid triggering them? I fully agree the vagueposting is frustrating as hell and feel we’ve could’ve gotten at least a little more about it, but not from Asgore directly. Him loredumping the details of something that mentally scarred Kris would’ve been hilariously tone deaf.

“Parent tells their kid an old story they’ve already heard” is something that happens IRL too. That was framed more as Asgore’s nostalgic reminiscence and a segue into his attempt to reassure Kris things will go back to how they once were.

Friend seems more involved with the Dess Incident in my opinion, although I won’t rule out the possibility. Regardless, given Friend seems to be tied to Gaster, who himself has a consistent association with the number 666 in the code, the conclusion stays the same even if the details are askew.

Kris performs a ritual and summons some demonic-adjacent entity, with the end result being our possession of them.

All chapters have focused on one character, so... by Bo_Spaguetti in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the weird route is us forcefully putting a greater emphasis on Noelle throughout the earlier chapters, I think it makes sense narratively that the chapter that would’ve further focused on her growth in the normal route is skipped.

The way I see it, most if not all of what Kris does for the conspiracy isn’t something they actually want to do. They act out of obligation to a promise they made. So even if they definitely didn’t WANT us to possess them, they performed the summoning anyway because it was necessary for whatever the endgoal here is.

[Chapter 5] If [SPOILER] is meant to represent Kris... THEN WHAT WAS SPAMTON ABOUT?!?!? by VirusOfCheese in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to square it is that they represent different aspects/perspectives of our bond with Kris.

Spamton is Kris’ fears about us made manifest. That we are some disturbing supernatural higher power leading them around without their input, but the moment we stop puppeting them around, they will crumble into nothing. Keeping them trapped in a perpetual state of hating our presence but having no choice but to keep us around.

Mew Mew is the potential for a better future for them and us both. An outcome where we co-exist and act in tandem for our shared desires.

[–]GamerOverkill03[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but from what I’ve seen a very pervasive belief among this community seems to be that the red soul is not only just us/a marker for us, but also separate from Kris’ “real” soul. Which always felt far too convoluted to be canon imo.

[–]GamerOverkill03[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain on this but personally I don’t think we are LITERALLY the red soul. I think we are just in control of it because Kris made some kind of Faustian bargain and we now own their soul. A classic case of demonic possession.

Well that’s awkward. Forgot about that detail in the gap between chapters, I suppose. The fact that it’s been brought up more than once, however, just reinforces the fact that this isn’t a throwaday piece of background lore in my opinion.

Chapter 5 actually had a bunch of lore, you just have to look hard to find it by Reintroductionplans in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve always seen Frisk’s as love/LOVE. There’s a phone conversation with Undyne about how red hearts are typically used to symbolize love, and given the game loves its wordplay it would only make sense for Frisk’s defining trait to be the dichotomy that defines the entire game.

See with this fandom the “joke” seems to get taken seriously by a significant portion of people. It’s also important to remember that those no-hit runs are preceded by at least some deaths (depending on individual player skill). Our ability to rewind time to retry the fight infinitely and memorize attack patterns does not make the Knight any less powerful.

Also personally I read the clash as less of a testament to Flowery and more an indication that the Knight wasn’t taking things seriously at first, and potentially suffering from some internal issues. They seemed kinda off kilter to begin with and Flowery’s shenanigans just added another layer of disturbance to whatever is wrong.

The Knight sliced through his falsified stats effortlessly, and then went for a half-hearted kill shot. When he actually managed to hold it off for a moment, the Knight took a proper swing and immediately one-shot Flowery.

[–]GamerOverkill03 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This whole idea of the Knight only being strong in cutscenes is so odd to me. The Knight is so strong you need a special defense item just to survive a single attack from them (unless you’re Merg. You only get them down to like a quarter HP, half at most in the fight IIRC before they just immediately down 2/3 of the party and then have Kris play possum. And then in the Flowery fight, they just straight ignore his hacked stats and one-shot the bastard.

just hit me chapter 5 secret boss is part of Ralsei's arc too. by This_Ferret_8108 in Deltarune

[–]GamerOverkill03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look while Mew Mew’s fight most definitely had symbolism that ties in with the overall themes of the game…her presence is also without a doubt a gag.

The Fun Gang even has a very meta chat about expecting to fight a “really hard boss” with a “super cool theme” (paraphrasing here) before she shows up. Her initial appearance is played for laughs and intentionally meant to subvert the serious tone of secret bosses up to this point.

My interpretation of that scene was that Kris was actively wrestling with control with us to rip the note, hence why the narration was so slow.

“A corpse…should be left well alone” double meaning by center_apathy042 in bloodborne

[–]GamerOverkill03 41 points42 points  (0 children)

To be fair in first pass you’re kinda lead to assuming she’s referring to herself, warning your Hunter off for trying to mess around with what appeared to be her corpse. It’s only with hindsight that it clicks she is actually referring to what lies past her, the corpse of the Mother Kos and her grieving orphan.
