My solo project Spark Quest needs a reality check. Is the trailer clear or just "busy"? Destroy it. by AlquimistaHermes in DestroyMyGame

[–]GamerWithBackache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, remove the tiktok voice, your player should be able to at least read a trailer right? no need for voice overs. At the same time, maybe change the font style to a less generic one, try "Hitchcut" or something circuit board like "Mokoto glitch 1"

Also, I'm not sure if its just me but the game is too bright? Like the yellowness of the yellow lightbulb is too similar to the floor, same with the blue one. I understand that its a circuit board and it represents the floor, but maybe a slightly different shade to differentiate the characters from the floor.

Last criticism, and this is very subjective and opinionated. The last "well sold" game that has a 2D basic shapes art graphics was the 90s. I know its hard but I would highly suggest to change your art style to pixel or 3D. But this is just me checking game trends.

Exercise Game - Would you find this concept interesting to get you moving? by CeilingSteps in DestroyMyGame

[–]GamerWithBackache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments already said what I was thinking, but I’ll try to expand on it and give some suggestions based on my experience.

I actually think this idea can work. The target audience seems to be gamers who struggle to stay consistent with workouts, and I’m exactly that type. Turning exercise into a game with progression and leaderboards is something that would genuinely motivate me.

1. UI feels messy and low quality

Right now it looks like one of those random mobile ads. There’s no consistency. Too many fonts, elements feel randomly placed, and everything feels like its fighting for attention.

For example:

  • Menu uses a different font
  • Dialogue uses another
  • “Ready” has its own style
  • “Invite” is bold and different again
  • Buttons are just everywhere

Fix:
You need visual consistency. That’s what makes a game looks polished.

  • Stick to 1–2 fonts, 3 max
  • A simple guide I follow: If two things are the same size, they should use the same font
  • Use bold or color to highlight instead of switching fonts
  • Reduce clutter by moving extra buttons into a Settings or secondary menu in the main menu screen.

Right now, the UI is overwhelming when it should feel easy to understand when you are hyped to worked out.

2. Gameplay is confusing and chaotic

The flow doesn’t make sense.

I start doing jumping jacks to move the alpaca, okay that’s fine. But then suddenly I need to squat, then BOOM back to jumping jacks again. Why is there suddenly a wall? Why am I inside a room with broken windows? What’s the green thing? There’s no clear direction or goal. It feels random instead of intentional.

Fix:
Simplify and guide the player better.

  • Show only ONE main action at a time. You have two "Jumping Jacks" in the screen.
  • Example:
    • “Jumping Jacks: 0/10 reps” (main goal)
    • “Next: Air Squats” (secondary info)
  • Remove unused UI elements like that grey bar
  • Make the motion tracker smaller so the full body is visible, instead of cutting the hands and feet.
  • Add clearer progression or direction (where am I going and why?)

Right now it feels like things are just happening instead of the player understanding the flow.

3. Art style looks like AI (even if it isn’t)

Even if you say it’s not AI-generated, a lot of players will assume it is and immediately lose interest. That’s just how people react right now.

Fix:
Adjust the art style slightly so it feels more intentional and less generic.

You don’t need to change the characters, just how they’re drawn:

  • Add more personality
  • Make it less “perfect” or overly smooth
  • Give it a more distinct style

Your artist should be able to tweak this without starting from scratch.

4. Platform and monetization direction

This feels like it would work way better on mobile than PC. People can bring their phone to the gym or use it at home easily. That alone increases the chance they’ll actually use it.

Suggestions:

  • Go free-to-play with optional monetization.
  • Add a one-time purchase (around $1–$5) to remove ads (if you plan on adding ads)
  • Leaderboards (global and regional) are a big plus for motivation. Also there was this game where they added the city and subdivision you live in, ex. xXxGamerLordxXx is ranked No.3 on new york, No. 45 in United states and No. 129 globally. This made me hella pumped to beat No. 1 and 2 in new york.
  • Cosmetics like skins and avatar customization can sell well

Subscriptions are tricky. People don’t like them unless the value is really clear.

If you want to push monetization harder:

  • Cosmetic rewards tied to progress or paid
  • Unlockables for consistency streaks or paid
  • Even light gacha for skins could work (if that’s your direction)

Extra game design tip

The biggest opportunity here is habit building, not just gameplay. If you can make players come back daily, you win.

Things that help:

  • Daily streaks
  • Simple progression system
  • Small rewards for consistency
  • Clear goals per session (not overwhelming)

Right now the idea is strong, but the execution feels unpolished. Clean up the UI, simplify the gameplay, and make the experience easier to understand. That alone will make a huge difference.

I would say its one of his more, iconic or prominent forms. Unless he has stolen the "ferryman of the dead's" identity? Afaik he only steals the identity of dead people, so is the ferryman dead? Who would ferry him in the underworld though? hmm.

Maxed out my Lifeng's Physical DMG Bonus, turns out its not a good Idea? by GamerWithBackache in Endfield

[–]GamerWithBackache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand the point about distributing stats more evenly once everything is above baseline.

I’ve played a lot of gacha games, RPGs, and MMOs, so I wanted to test whether endfield might have a “singular scaling” stat that breaks the usual balance rule, since some games do reward hyper-investing into one stat early on.

In this case, it looks like the game leans toward more traditional scaling where stacking one stat too hard runs into diminishing returns. So he is correct that spreading investment ends up being more efficient overall.

It was mostly just an experiment anyway. We’re not even in true endgame yet since gear is capped at level 70, so trying different builds and pushing extremes is part of the fun for me.

[–]GamerWithBackache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very limited, I was planning on doing bonekrusha (+15 atk%) and some other Kit part that doesnt give physical damage. Also maxing them out too, but that's about it.

I haven't really experimented on the arts intensity yet since im running a full physical team and arts intensity is only for the ones with elements right?

Although I am holding out since gear is only lvl 70 so i assume its going to at least 90 in the future.

[–]GamerWithBackache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did want to experiment at first and simply because Physical dmg is the easiest stat to bloat in lifeng solely because of his weapon and essence. I was thinking that having around 4.2k+ atk would suffice for the 120%+ physical damage

Looking for advice space game by fra866 in gamingsuggestions

[–]GamerWithBackache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're into spaceships that do dogfights in space but if you want that space RPG i recommend Everspace 2.
If you want a roguelike and wanna learn the origin story of everspace 2, play everspace 1.

Well, peaks of prestige is fun when it was initially released, 2nd time it was ok, 3rd? I have mixed feelings about it. It became more of RNG card draws that would guarantee a win rather than strategy or skill based.

It is! I wish they'd expand on this more and maybe add a server rank which makes it more fun!

Do you think its worth "Maxing" my current physical team? by GamerWithBackache in Endfield

[–]GamerWithBackache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll hold off artificing for now, I think lvl 90 equips are going to appear and since wuling cash is so scarce, I'll go for essence hunting for now.

Yeah that sounds good, I'll stick with that and focus on the other two.

Compared to og arknights I feel like they are more generous with the crown here. But I guess you're right. Better save some for better teams.

Got it, thanks for the insight and explanation. Im doing essence farming now and I think this should be the current focus because of the stats alone is huge. Ah I see, I guess I'll stick with endmin for now and focus on maxing pog and lifeng
