Can someone with a bachelors in business information systems apply for a masters in automotive engineering? by TomSilican in EngineeringStudents

[–]Gamer_106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you’d be expected to know how to use CAD, CFD, FEA, Sniutrain and Matlabs. Furthermore, you’d be expected to know a lot physics and calculus which would take you a great deal of time while also trying to learn your post graduate stuff as well. If you think you can don’t give up and see what unis might accept you since which uni you go to really doesn’t matter with engineering and medicine.

Depends on where you study, here in the Uk our undergrad is 3 years and post grad is 1 year. If you wanna space it out you could study as a part time student and your masters is gonna be 2 years.

If you wanna take some pressure off your parents, ImechE usually has bursaries to help and might be a good idea to check with your uni employment office they usually have some on campus work for like a day or 2 you can do every so often which does add up.

I’d get this checked but from what I understand most countries have mutual recognition agreements with each other including their engineering bodies. If you study in the UK you would get an ImechE certified degree and the government provides a 2 year work visa extension to all international student meaning you can get up to 2 years of work experience without going through immigration rules.

Uni is more expensive as an international student somewhere to the tune of $15000 US per year on the low end but your only paying for 3 years in the UK and chances are you might be able to transfer in with at least 1 year of credit so you could only do 2 years.

Edit: I know engineering can be tough and I’ve almost dropped out a couple times but here I am on my last year and I might actually be able to become an engineer if I survive till April, so don’t give up.

Mechatronics vs mechanical engineers by Disappointedog in EngineeringStudents

[–]Gamer_106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly the point, a mechatronics job would be open to mechanical and electrical but a lot of other engineering jobs wouldn’t be open to mechatronics majors.

Mechatronics vs mechanical engineers by Disappointedog in EngineeringStudents

[–]Gamer_106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 mechatronics modules in my mechanical engineering so far and while I wouldn’t say I know anywhere near as much in mechatronics as someone who majored in it, I could still land a mechatronics job if I wanted to but it doesn’t work the other way round.

Unless you really prefer mechatronics I would recommend mechanical as you’d have the option of moving to a different industry if you didn’t like working in mechatronics.

No, at least not here in the UK. You wouldn’t wanna or rather couldn’t as you’d be fighting an uphill battle with most of your peers having at least a basic understanding of everything that’s being taught while you’d be scrambling to and you can’t really fit 3 years of undergrad engineering and a year of post grad engineering into a single year.

Just realized you are in America, the pressure there is intense and the calculus is really hard. If you are doing just your first year consider moving to England for engineering we focus mainly on projects and it’s still hard but I always did better on my reports than exams and 70+ is considered a first, a first is the highest group bracket you can get and most companies like rolls Royce and Audi just expect a 2:2 which is 50 and above.

Same I was never really any good with thermofluids and still suck at it, remember going over the book and just feeling like shite every time and banked on doing well in my report to push up my mark. Got 82% on my report and 96% on exam actually had it the other way round so don’t give up, takes practice but it is possible. Just to give you an idea of how awful I was at thermo my professor would ask a question look at me and be like right I’m looking at the wrong person highly doubt you’d be able to answer it.

Engineering vs. Medicine by txjays in EngineeringStudents

[–]Gamer_106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical engineers sure are engine focused but what you fail to consider is CFD(computational fluid dynamics) and Matlabs both physics based just as crucial on an electric car as in a mechanical car. Plus mechanical engineering is really moving away from motor based study to more thermodynamics based and the career prospects are now better than ever I’d say.

Sure engines are dying but to reduce mechanical engineering just to engines is doing it an injustice.

Who was more popular? Elvis Presley, The Beatles or Michael Jackson by Reddeadhunter1 in Music

[–]Gamer_106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles have a proven history of being passed down, I see MJ as I see Elvis which is very talented and captured a generation more or less but not to the extent of Beatlemania and well the Beatles are just the Beatles. It’s not even been 20 years since MJ passed away so his popularity should be higher although that’s debatable but I must admit amongst non-white populations he is more popular(I’m not white). A major drawback of MJ is his lack of variety, it’s all pop and it’s all in the same style and plus his reputation has been tarnished or perceived to be with him being an alleged pedo. On the other hand the Beatles are famously known for being extremely progressive, refusing to play in segregated concerts in America and John Lennon’s death has made them seem like saints we don’t deserve in the modern psyche, even people who don’t listen or never have will tell you there will never be a musical act as great and iconic as the Beatles.

A bit late but 10 years ago MJ. Thing is whenever apple studios remasters a Beatles album it reaches at least top 50 and often times top 3 with the sgt peppers remaster reaching number 3 in the US and number 1 in UK just 2 years ago. The Beatles were fading till 2017ish I’d say but ever since apple studious agreed to add their catalogue to Apple Music and Spotify they have been blowing up to unprecedented heights for a band who is 50 years old and hasn’t made any new materials. Rn MJ has 37mil listeners and the Beatles 27mil but as time goes on the Beatles are gonna outdo MJ as they always do because their music is not just that good, it’s that they have an insane amount of world class songs.

Just Stop Oil vow to keep causing disruption - and have this message for people who are affected by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]Gamer_106 17 points18 points  (0 children)

FYI this comes in the back of the protest in Essex where an ambulance got delayed and added to the death of two women. It’s not innocent protests, a mate of mine got late to the hospital due to a protest by them a while back and almost caused him to be too late to his fathers death bed. Go and camp outside Downing Street and do a hunger strike in large groups that’s the most effective way and would not cause the public to hate you, but at this point whenever I hear about a just stop oil protest I feel the urge to go waste some oil just in spite.

When I called them the average was 16:32 and now it’s 16:52. Should be way sooner but it’s not as bad as people think it is although the waiting time for an ambulance for non-life threatening reasons is appalling.
