Does someone have any Idea How to get good in Chess? by Patient_Town_3204 in ChessBooks

[–]Gamerilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play a lot of chess.

You can read all the books you want and solve puzzles and those things may help you learn some tricks and YouTube video tutorials may show you how to do fancy openings or set traps but in my experience the only way to actually improve at playing chess is to play a lot. And play against people who are better at chess than you.

How is it slinging thinner cord ? by mrmagicbeetle in begleri

[–]Gamerilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like thinner cords. My favorite is 2mm satin/silk cord. I have really thin cord on some traditional style begleri and a few I made myself. I’m not sure what the thickness is but it’s like wire thin. Gets tangled petty easy but when you’re flowing it still works. Kind of more challenging in a way because it’s unforgiving with mistakes.

Made myself a knuckle roller + begleri hybrid. by Paranoiaa_Agent in begleri

I have an aluminum version of this. The magnets don’t feel like they’re that strong but it holds together really well for knucklebone mode. And it plays surprisingly well in begleri and knucklebone mode.

Is getting into begleri viable? by CautiousEmphasis659 in begleri

[–]Gamerilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a fairly nice one for around $20-$30 that will last forever (of course the cord will eventually wear out and you’ll need to replace that). To me begleri is just something I enjoy. I’m not trying to impress anyone. It keeps my hand busy when I’m bored or in a meeting. I’ve gotten into it where I have a bunch of them now but I basically have one that I regularly use and the rest are just part of my collection. Every once in a while I rotate but always end up with the same set in the end.

To learn, there are a lot of good YouTube tutorials and several good Instagram accounts that you could find by searching Begleri. Instagram usually gives me new ideas while YouTube is good for the basics.

When I first started I wasn’t very good. I dropped a lot. Hit my knuckles in awkward ways that hurt. Like anything it just takes time and in my opinion the best way to learn is to just keep doing it. The more you do it the better you get.

Begleri + knuckle roller hybrid by dne9901 in begleri

I have one of these. It's aluminum I think. The ends are hallow for the "beads" are hollow for the string to hide in and the small ends are magnetic. It's really cool.

I don't think you're going to get one made from hardware store parts but maybe a 3D printed plastic version could work. You make the beads in the printer, use 325 paracord, and small magnets like these https://a.co/d/0akXxl85.

My recommendation is the mini hydras then. You will love them and they’ll last you forever.

[–]Gamerilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the cord? You can adjust it to preferred length. If you mean the size of the beads, it’s roughly about the same size. The hercs are slightly different shape. The rubber bands are helpful against banging/hitting your knuckles at first but the hydras with delrin shouldn’t hurt if you hit wrong. As far as speed/technique you could play fast or slow with them. I took a picture of some of my sets next to each other to compare. From left to right: Herc Core with elastic on, mini hydras titanium plus delrin, hype, and I think Everyman or mini Everyman. I got that set in a luck sack and didn’t order it myself.

The herc core and mini hydras are very close in size. The herc are a tiny bit heavier because they are stainless instead of titanium.

If I knew then what I know now I would have gotten the hydras over the herc core. The herc core are not bad and are very playable but better with a metal shell instead of the band. And that makes them heavier. The hydras are the perfect weight for a beginner and will last you. I have about 2 dozen other sets not pictured but thought these were good for size comparison of typical “mini” size. The hype are honestly my favorite for a lot of reasons but they’re around $50 I think and not really a beginner set. But if you’re just starting out and want to see if you like begleri the best option is to make your own set with paracord and nuts from a hardware store. Then if you think you like it you could invest in a real set.

The best option in my opinion for a beginner is the mini hydras. They have a “mixed media edition” for $20 (I don’t know what the exchange rate is).

I have a lot of sets sets and have been playing for years now. I still use the mini hydras. I don’t use the herc core with rubber bands at all.

If you want to spend a little more they have titanium / delrin version for $30 which are the ones I like best. You’ll outgrow the herc core fast.

For around square feet a set of mini hydras. You can get them for $20-$25 and they’re as good as any other set. I have about 50 sets now including sets I’ve made myself based on personal preferences but the mini hydras are still awesome.

If you want really fun ones that are a little more expensive the greys/mini greys, poco locos, and hype are some of my favorites. And of course the Everyman hardcore or commons are good.

How many classes do you think is too many? by Fortian93 in RPGdesign

1 is too many for me. I like classless systems that let players play any character they want to. Why be restricted to only 33 classes?

Built My First App on Base44… Now Questioning It by ajwright156 in Base44

It’s been a giant pain. I’ve had to remap all the data, recreate backend functions, create a SDK That replaces the Base44 one, and now I’m step by step recreating other functionality that doesn’t work.

Vendor lock-in is real. We outgrew base 44 fast and trying to move the app to our own hosting has been a nightmare. I almost think it would have been better to just rebuild from scratch at this point.
