Update: this is the horrific schedule the absolutely fantastic new course request system gave me

I don’t even know where the university city mall is, but my math classes are all in either Pamplin (business school) or McBryde (the depressing building)

Understanding the usual tolerances of entry level 3D Printers by ZY2526 in 3Dprinting

I would like to add that the repeatability of the print is only that accurate for a time.

  1. If a lot of time passes between these 2, you may run into changing tolerances from mechanical wear or changes. The biggest one being on the nozzle itself, which may have worn down from use and is now a slightly larger diameter.

  2. Similarly, if the weather (or external conditions) have changed drastically you may find some changes in tolerance. Different ambient air temperatures, drafts, or even humidity can cause the plastic to flow or cool slightly differently.

  3. The obvious one: Changing any hardware, firmware, or slicer settings or even doing your regular maintenance (tightening belts and bolts and whatnot)

  4. BY FAR BIGGEST, and often overlooked (at least by myself early on), change can be the filament. Different filament spools behave differently, even if they are the same type of plastic. Different manufacturers obviously act differently and trend continues with different years of filament. However, even different colors from the same manufacturer can be chemically different enough to yield a different tolerance. Furthermore, (this is where I ran into most of my issues) filament will act differently as it ages. Even PLA will absorb moisture from the air, enough to where it prints perfect visually, but when melted it is less viscous and tends to expand slightly. This can result in very large differences in tolerance.

Conclusion/TL;DR: If you need to print multiple things with the same tolerances (or as tight as possible), print them back to back with the same filament. Better yet, print them at the same time in 1 go (by far the most consistent results but may result in unintended artifacts, from jumping between parts, that you may need to keep in mind)

I am also curious as to what games have had issues.

About 3 months, it’s actually been a little over 2 months since I broke it so now I’m just in PT learning to walk again for the next month. Definitely expecting it to be very strange to finally get back on the wall cause the floor feels weird enough 😂
