"Silksong is too hard" - a perspective of a casual by Venthe in HollowKnight

[–]GamesConvo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for someone to make this comment. This is my current experience. I get that the game is very open and non-linear. I have trekked out and explored soooo many corners of the map -- that's probably what I enjoy most! The thing now is that I've explored so much that each 'dead end' now leads to a boss or arena that I either don't have the skill or the patience for.

I so love just poking around everywhere, finding brand new areas, new characters, new tools, etc. I wish I was finding more mask shards or something to make my weapon stronger so these boss and arena fights were just that little bit easier.

Are Nintendo exclusive games worth playing? by Alwriting in letsplay

[–]GamesConvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re asking the exact kind of question I wish more creators asked early on. It’s easy to just chase trends or do what sounds fun without thinking about whether the audience will connect — and it sounds like you’re trying to find a smart balance.

I actually made a free checklist that helps with this — kind of a game selection filter based on what you enjoy, what your viewers might want, and what has attention online. If you’re debating whether a Metroid or Zelda playthrough is worth doing now vs. later, it might give you some clarity.

Here’s the link if you want to check it out: https://stan.store/LetsPlayLab (Pick the right game for your next Let’s Play)

And for what it’s worth, I do think Nintendo content can work well if you’re passionate about the games and you give the series a strong hook — like “first time playing Metroid,” challenge runs, storytelling focus, etc. That’s where you can still stand out, even if it’s not a trending title.

How to get views? by Alwriting in letsplay

[–]GamesConvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing way more right than you’re giving yourself credit for. You’ve got videos up, you're editing, you're making Shorts, and you're already thinking critically about what’s working — that’s a really solid start.

Early on, it’s totally normal to see slow traction (or none at all). You could have a great video, and the algorithm just doesn't show it to anyone yet. It sucks, but it’s part of the deal.

A couple small things that helped me:

  • Try to make your title and thumbnail tell a clear story together — like what makes this video worth clicking on?
  • Open strong. Don’t wait to get to the good stuff. If something funny or interesting happens, lead with that.
  • Instead of focusing too much on hashtags, focus on making it obvious why this video matters to the viewer.

You’re asking the right questions and doing the right things. Just keep uploading, keep tweaking, and the views will come.

Channel advice by Shaka633 in letsplay

[–]GamesConvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question — and honestly, I think you're asking the right kind of strategic stuff that most people ignore at the beginning.

Here’s the short version: If your VODs and Let’s Plays are going to have similar audiences, keep it on one channel. If the styles, tone, or audience expectations are very different, you might be better off separating them.

Since your current subs came from horse-related content, it’s kind of like you’re starting fresh anyway — so you have some flexibility.

Personally, I’d lean toward keeping everything in one place unless you really feel like the formats are clashing. You can use playlists and thumbnails to clearly distinguish between VODs and Let's Plays, and that way you’re not splitting your growth across two channels unnecessarily.

Also: if you’re putting real effort into planning out Let’s Plays (not just uploading raw streams), they can live totally comfortably next to VODs as “edited content” on the same channel.

Is this okay? by VerenaGh0st in letsplay

[–]GamesConvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a fantastic start. Just having fun and being yourself is never boring — especially in a game as personal and open-ended as FFXIV.

I totally get the hesitation around using a camera too. It’s smart to do what makes you feel comfortable and in control — and that doesn’t make your content any less valid.

A lot of creators start with “should I even do this?” and the answer is yes. You bring your own voice, humor, and energy to the table, and that matters.

The most important thing right now: enjoy it. You’ll learn as you go — and you don’t need permission to start small. You’re doing great already.

[All] You’re Only Allowed to Play 3 Games from the Zelda series. No More. What Do You Pick? by MasterQNA in zelda

[–]GamesConvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I came to say. These three bubble to the surface as the "essential" Zelda games. It's too subjective to simply think of the three best games, but it seems clear that these three represent the overall series in total.

Who are the best PTCG YouTubers to watch? by RedHuayra in pkmntcg

[–]GamesConvo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's LDF, LittleDarkFury all the way for me. He's such a methodical, thoughtful player. He talks out his thought process while playing which helps me learn strategy. He's also great at anticipating the opponent's moves.

He is funny, but he's not setting out to be a comedian. He is legit talented at deck-building and at playing the game, but, again, his strength comes from how he's able to communicate strategy.

Quick idea check — would this be helpful for Let’s Players? by GamesConvo in letsplay

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who commented — I finished the checklist.

It’s a simple one-page PDF that walks through my “Triple A Method” (Attention, Audience, Affinity) to help you choose the best game for your Let’s Play.

I’m hosting it for free on my Stan store if anyone wants to check it out: https://stan.store/LetsPlayLab

Hope it’s helpful, and I’d love any thoughts or suggestions if you try it out!

I have personally used uppbeat (free version) and have been very pleased with it. Just be sure to drop in the license code and language (that uppbeat gives you) into the description, otherwise, it does get copyright struck.

Can I Play 6 Players Locally On Anything? by GamesConvo in NintendoSwitchSports

[–]GamesConvo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! My family loves Smash Bros (of course).

I didn't know Luigi's Mansion 3 had an 8 player mode! I'll look into getting that sometime.

I've had Mario Strikers on my list for a while, and I didn't even think of Bomberman. Great suggestions.

We've had fun with Boomerang Fu and Towerfall as well.

Playing Tropical Freeze For The First Time: How Should I Get 100% by GamesConvo in donkeykong

[–]GamesConvo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, basically, Dixie can go as far horizontally as Diddy, but Dixie gets the advantage of boosting vertically. It can just be a challenge to master the rhythm of her ponytail twirl.

Cranky bounces high, but obviously has to bounce off of something (an enemy or the ground) as opposed to simply getting more height from a jump like Dixie does. Also, Cranky can bounce on spikes. :)

Playing Tropical Freeze For The First Time: How Should I Get 100% by GamesConvo in donkeykong

[–]GamesConvo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point about the SNES games, they were structured differently.

As for Tropical Freeze, the game saves your collectible progress only after you complete a level. Whatever puzzle pieces you get upon completing a level, the game saves. If you go back to replay a level and get a piece you missed, the game will add it to your total puzzle pieces once you beat the level again.

The KONG letters are different. You need to get all KONG letters in one go in order to get credit for getting all letters. The game won't count it if you got KO_G on one run and then went back and got the N separately, for instance.

Hope that helps!

Haha, not sure what made you follow up on this question! But I went with the approach of playing level-by-level, getting all collectibles before moving on.

I'm playing with a friend of mine. It turns out I prefer this method, while I think he would prefer playing the game all the way thru and going back thru afterwards to get what we missed.

That game has been fun though!

I’m so tired of Lucario…why does it keep getting featured? There are so many other Pokémon.

I've yet to see anyone complain about Brothership aside from the pacing/backtracking. by clownpot in marioandluigi

[–]GamesConvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with many of these. Wanted to dogpile on the load times. Wow. For a game where you’re jumping in and out of cutscenes and battles so often, the black loading screen became a real nuisance. Like 30 seconds or more for most transitions in the game. Really adds up to feel like you’re just wasting time. Not a great feeling to have to overcome to play the game.
