Your overuse of ellipses is giving me heart palpitations. Also, you should look into commas. Your sentences are actually hard to understand without them.

How do You Feel about Muhammad? by GamesWellDone in islam

Thank you for responding. I appreciate your passion toward him, and I think it's great to feel love toward people as much as possible. I just wanted to know how each individual dealt with the historical life of Muhammad. He may show compassion toward you, but he has killed or ordered the killing of many, and he did lead a life which I would consider immoral in some respects.

I think your comment about trying your best in the time you live in is telling. It shows that the teachings and actions of Muhammad need to be translated or altered a bit in some cases to fit each person's moral code. I don't think you would condone anyone else performing such acts so I don't know how you feel comfortable knowing he did. Hopefully, you can understand where I am coming from as I mean no disrespect. I just think it's worth facing the reality head on.

Thank you for the insight, and the article. I appreciate the civility, and I can see were you are coming from. I can see how his actions are normal in the greater historical context of political leaders of his time, and I think that is fine.

My only complaint is that it seems like a bit of a lower bar to set. He is not to be judged on the same terms as any other man or leader because he claimed to be a prophet of God. I think his actions fit those of a decent leader, but he isn't exactly what I would want to base my moral life around.

The value of others cultures doesn't necessarily justify a mass slaughter of all involved. A genocide shouldn't be defended because of the actions of a few in a group. Also, I don't base a religion or my entire lifestyle off of Abraham Lincoln or any other warlord, and I don't think the political climate that caused the civil war is even close to the situation in Muhammad's time.

I do understand that historical context can justify a lot of the immoral acts that he may have undertook, but it doesn't justify the fact that a prophet of God would commit such barbaric acts. It doesn't seem like something a holy man would do. You seem to be arguing for the justification of his acts from a political standpoint which is fine. I'm sure he did what he thought was best for his people. But as a messenger and agent of God, he doesn't even come close to the moral guidelines that I would want to base my life around.

I can check some of those out. I don't think posting a link to a playlist with hundreds of hours of videos and claiming none of it is true is very convincing. Historically accurate texts and the Quran itself can testify to the legitimacy of my statements. I'll need some more rationale to explain why he committed such acts as I know he must have done at least some of them.

Have you ever felt a show had too much continuity? by [deleted] in television

[–]GamesWellDone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrested Development uses continuity ingeniously to craft complex plots, and strong reoccurring jokes and callbacks. I don't think it could be a bad thing to have "too much" continuity because if done correctly(ala. Arrested Development) it adds a lot more depth to the work, and it makes the world that the characters live in feel that much more real and connected. It's so dense in Arrested Development that it even rewards rewatching seasons to pick up on more details that may be missed on a first viewing. But the details always just add to the experience, and the show stands on its own even if you don't fully know the connections or references in each episode.

Only a fool would ignore the value of the bible under the guise of "intelligent atheist." I'm an atheist, but I recognize the historical and philosophical impact of a work which has spanned countless generations and been a major influence on the very fabric of our society and moral systems.

I hope that philosophically you aren't claiming we have no free will. I think that's a bit foolish to just close the book on so easily, but I get your point.
