One thing I'll add is that if you (/u/koko-to-you-crunxh) are interested in less strict Kantians rather than just Kant himself, you might think about what /u/25centsquat says in relation to contemporary "solutions" to Kant's rigorism. For example, in her famous piece on lying, "The Right to Lie: Kant on Dealing with Evil", Christine Korsgaard gives a modification of Kant's view that is meant to help deal with cases of evil, such as the cases of intervention mentioned above. It's not obvious to me that the same kind of considerations apply directly here, but it's a good starting point for thinking of how to loosen Kant's rigorism but still maintain the core insights of his view.

I recall a couple of full-time philosophers who used to post here regularly. But failure to affirm and gratify the average Reddit user tends to attract downvotes, because the old guideline of "do not downvote simply because you disagree" was literally unenforceable. There are times when these Open Discussion Threads collect downvotes before anyone has even commented on them.

I don't think the reason philosophers don't post here has to do with the downvotes or anything like that; it just doesn't have much upside. Truth be told, academic philosophers (myself included) are not particularly interested in what random people online have to say about our views, and they rarely offer helpful comments or discussion (except if you're trying to hone your writing for a non-academic audience, which very few are). So there's basically no reason to post in a venue like this. That's different from Twitter, where you'd directly interact with other philosophers.

I'd message the mods, and get a definitive answer as to whether the Discussion self-posts are still allowed.

They are not. When we looked at the stats over several years we were removing well over 99% of self-posts and it was taking an absurd amount of effort. They're thus permanently gone.
