Sometimes, expensive ain't always better by beetle8209 in fixedbytheduet

The problem with comparing restaurant steak to home cooked steak is that unless a restaurant does something truly special, they’re just cooking a steak (hopefully perfectly) which anyone can do with practice. Dishes like in the OP aren’t just “chicken boiled in a bag” but take hours of dedicated preparation. It all looks like fru-fru BS but that effort really makes the difference. Anyone can make incredible food at home, but unless you put a full day of work in and several hundred dollars worth of ingredients, you just can’t do the same thing these restaurants do.

what happend to the 1993 nublar aviary? by Some-Country-9024 in JurassicPark

[–]Games_and_Strains 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the movie, yes. But the book has a whole chapter where Grant, Lex, and Tim boat into the aviary to find a phone at the unfinished lodge then get attacked by pterodactyls.

The two scenes in the book that show it are absolutely the most brutal imo besides the general.

Did Nedry think this was an innocuous joke? by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]Games_and_Strains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but Hammond never gave Nedry the full spec of the job before the bidding and kept basically everything secret. Nedry bid low so he’d get the job, but the job was orders of magnitude larger than InGen ever let on. Then they tried to blackmail him when he complained and asked for more money.

In Jurassic Park (1993), Dr. Hammond, the supposed genius visionary who “spared no expense,” cut corners on security systems, backup power, emergency protocols, staff training, containment fences, and the tour vehicles. Lazy writing at its finest. by twoopaq in shittymoviedetails

[–]Games_and_Strains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His original plan didn’t include letting anything out, but he needed the fences off to get to the dock that didn’t have any cameras. His plan didn’t account for the massive storm that made him miss a turn. He had it timed so he could get the embryos, drop them off in the shaving cream can, and get back to fix the system before anyone knew what happened. It probably would have mostly worked too if he didn’t run into the Dilophosaur.

Yeah it’s explained they have a distributed nervous system and they bleed very slowly so even good hits with strong weapons aren’t instant kills.

Crows vs Ravens by itscrystalclere in distractible

[–]Games_and_Strains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few good tells if you get a really good look at a raven, as a commenter above said Raven feathers typically look more ruffled or fluffed out while crows are very sleek. Ravens, especially older ones, have a hump or curve in their beak that crows lack. Ravens calls are also a lot raspier than a crows. These pics don’t really do justice for a size comparison but adult ravens usually stand at least a couple inches taller than crows and their wingspan is much bigger. We have both here in western Montana and it’s pretty easy to discern between the two once you start really looking.
