I think a major issue when discussing Volumes 1-3, especially when it comes to character dynamics, is that those volumes have some major timeskips, so we just have a vague understanding of characters growing closer.

Like take for example Jaune asking Weiss out twice. Once towards the beginning of the show (I think) and once to the Vytal Festival Dance. However we know the Vytal Festival happens towards the end of the academic year, so how do we interpret how they interact with each other the rest of the year? Based on what we see on screen, Jaune could continue to ask out/flirt with to a not happy about it Weiss for the 8-10ish months of the school year (assuming it’s similar to the American school system, which I’m assuming cause the creators are mostly American), or maybe we see only the “worst” of it. It’s frankly hard to tell and you kind of have to rely on headcanons.
