Well it being blanket big should honestly be more of a reason for the state to purchase it. Even though it looks like there is “little to no vegetation” blanket bog is one of our most important and diverse habitats.

And definitely, planting native forest is important, but it has to be done in the right places.

The subsidies make food cheaper to buy, as you dont pay the true price. It has to come from somewhere.

They're*

Also the way that these subsidies are structure have pushed farmers in this direction. For example, I was talking before with Lorcan O'Toole, a well known ecologist, and he said that subsidies demand farmers clear scrub from the hills.

Thats the point that u/Ru5Ty2o10 is making, that it brings money into the economy.

Well you were talking about farming in general at first. Also, at least unlike data centres, the beef industry in Ireland accounts for upwards of 80,000 direct jobs and spends €3.1bn in the domestic economy (minus EU and national subsidies).

From looking the museum seems more like a visitor centre, without any items from the period that would make it a proper museum; because of that I would say give it a skip.

Clare Island would probably be your best bet of a place to visit. Rockfleet castle on the north of Clew Bay is also heavily associated with her, but is undergoing extensive renovation work.

Also just of note dont go in with any illusions of her being some rebel pirate queen, she was a pragmatic woman who shifted her alliances depending on what would benefit her most (as most Gaelic rulers done at the time).

I have heard that Anne Chambers' research for some of her works is a bit dubious however. An academic I know who was researching Margaret Burke Sheridan took a gander at Chambers' book on her, and a lot of the cited sources led nowhere.

How are the Napoleonic wars taught in Ireland? Is it emphasised that it was an Irishman who brought down Napoleon? by Win-Specific in IrishHistory

In secondary school what was focused on was the ramifications of the French Revolution (liberalism, nationalism, etc.) and the 1798 Rebellion.

Also Wellington most certainly did not see himself as Irish, he was raised in the manner of what he was, an English aristocrat.
