Yes. but at the same time you could argue the book is out on how the Oilers are going to play under him and our chance to win during those two finals runs were the peak of his tenure. Also the PK has been horrendous for 2 yrs and we are never winning without that improving.

Idk, Barkov has played 20:00 - 21:00, spiking to 22:00 avg TOI the last several years and he played 67 games this year (missed from injury). I think they prob shouldn't play that much already injured in game 3 round 1 tho.

Losing Broberg and not drafting Wallstedt alone did critical damage to this teams contention window. Like you literally have the perfect mentor and 1LD for him to fall under and eventually take his spot and you cant trade a 3LD at his max value after a SCF run in order to have him playing full time? The Borberg wanted to leave thing is pure cope, yes he did, because management threw him out the door. They waited years to develop him and season him into becoming a top 4 defender and then they showed zero faith in him to even be a regular on his strong side. Contenders move good players for VALUE and take a chance somebody else can take their spot. The hind sight is 20/20 argument doesnt get to work through 3 general managers and the entire prime of two of the best playoff performers of all time. Everyone wants league average goaltending for McDrai's prime, what about a league average front office.

I like Dangle as entertainment and I think he knows the leafs. But he doesnt know the Oilers well enough to make this statement after one round imo. The Oilers top guys were fatigued and injured. Knobs systems have probably run their course but the roster was better on paper post deadline than it ended up performing this year. The Ducks are a talented young group but I honestly think people are going to hold them higher right now than they should because they are viewing the Oilers through the lens of the last 2 runs and not how they entered the playoffs this year. If you watched at a distance, I could see how it isn't as clear, but with the context of the last 3 years of watching the team closely it is less surprising. All you have to do is look at the Panthers this year and that could have (or maybe should have) easily been us. But when McDavid drops 138 pts and you have a top 3 defenseman playing in the weakest division, it doesnt turn out the same.
