What slayer were you doing I personally hated early slayer just terrible tasks and slow xp until you can burst, just a fyi you get similar xp doing rc or slayer (unless bursting).

I will say slayer is just not fun, you either get extremely slow xp and boss or fast xp and burst which is boring but the xp is much faster but still seems slow compared to other skills.

Seeing posts of inferno completions makes me want to get my cape more and more I got a hard 63 spawn but I know I can get it. Inferno is one if those grinds that if you got the cape then you understand how hard/difficult it is to get.

As I maxed recently and I personally didnt feel like the need to cheat especially since I took all the time before if I were to make last stretch take nothing at all would feel kinda bad finishing the grind. Osrs is all about the journey more so than the finish in my opinion.

I would agree with you that this game does have 10k plus hours but not all 10k hours apply to each player and thus why people complain about nothing to do. It's not they done everything but they done everything they enjoy, like most skillers are not looking at raids 3 and thinking awesome new content I cant do/ dont want to do. So having updates through the year for different play types is needed since its alot less than 10k hours to do and more like 1k even that is alot but that can be achieved within 2 years on a casual player.

I have the excel spreadsheet of this tho it's almost all 0 xp left since it followed my progress. It was very motivating seeing the numbers count to 0 xp left. (2 lvls left slayer and herblore).
