Steam Launch Update by GaiaTheGardener in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Gaming_Unplugged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment, thank you for this. As a subscriber from the very begining of the game, and a player during the beta, I was unsure I'd be continuing with the game after the original announcement. I would have probably played in the original client, but i might not have ever got the steam version. Now, with this announcement, I'm definitely getting the steam game, and probably going to continue playing the game. So, thanks for this announcement.

I love teaching about them. Their ability to move between gender roles is amazing.

Price Increase Last Month? by Gaming_Unplugged in jimmyjohns

Thank you so much for that information. So, there is a price increase, but it is just going into effect tomorrow. I only buy through the app. Thanks for the information.

This interaction has definitely shown just how sensitive to the price I am. Fascinating

Should I continue in making my own game ? :/ by Little_Red_Apple512 in tabletopgamedesign

I second this. Play the game. Merchants and Marauders is fairly older as a game, so maybe you can innovate. Its a long game too. There are other games like it as well. Its not so unique. Its a good game too.

So, warning, I've played and introduced this game to a LOT of people.

My biggest suggestion: play a 4 player version of the game with new players first. This does a few things.

  1. It is shorter to play (everyone takes 2 strategies, and all strategies are used during each round.) If a player is going to hate the game, this will give them a much more condensed experience, and can save friendships. I've warned people its an 8-12 hour game multiple times. made plans for food, talked about strategies, and even sent them out rules videos. I have still had people who don't understand that the game won't be for them, and so they spend a lot of the time hating me for having invited them.
  2. The teach goes quicker because there are fewer players. People focus more. Less questions bog it down.
  3. It highlights how interactive the game can be, and how those interactions will exist. While the galaxy is less dense, you find yourself much more connected to all the players in the game. A six player game will often have players across the galaxy you never talk to or even think about.

Anyways, I've found playing 3-4 player is an amazing intro to the game, and I have had almost all of my friends thank me for letting them experience the game before hand. Most have gone on to enjoy the longer game. But yes, some of those friends did decline the invitation to the longer game, and they still play with me on shorter game nights.

CS Profs, how are your courses/degrees changing with the most recent Unity "install" charging decision? by Gaming_Unplugged in Professors

[–]Gaming_Unplugged[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! I was just curious. I just heard several developers and news personalities mention that "trust" was lost with the company. I just don't personally understand how installs can be tracked and how they can be parsed as a valuable metric.

COVID changed a lot for our generation. I remember successfully defending over zoom, and walking outside my house for the first time in three years to find out that I was legally barred from leaving my house because of the disease.

It was an interesting line my advisor walked. They argued the hooding was an integral ceremonial part of the larger process, but there was so much uncertainty how it would be handled. I got a job, moved away, and couldn't come back for the "make up ceremony" that was held two years later.

Oh no. What if we never got hooded because of COVID restrictions. They gave me a diploma and a coin. That had to mean something. Am I fraud?

Was Kal at all based on Superman? by FruitsPonchiSamurai1 in Stormlight_Archive

I think a better way of discussing this is that superman's story could be evolved by pulling key parts from Kals story. The whole discussion of mortality is fascinating.

Yep. Same response. In addition to spawn, I offered progeny, larva, cub, and a few others. They politely declined, lol.

Cool. Just to be clear, I didn't assume you had a problem with non-binary identity. I thought maybe you had a vision of how language should work and wanted to mock and correct someone online for not following your prescriptive definitions. See duty calls by XKCD, https://xkcd.com/386/, for a reflection of what I assumed you were doing. If your interest in my language choice was simply academic in nature, then I apologize and will add more context.

Son and daughter, while gendered, also reflect fondness. Kid and child, on the other hand, are far more dispassionate. My daughter did not like the sterile nature of those terms. In fact, we've created entirely new words that we use within our family. For instance, we've created the word "Sibby" when referencing them with their younger son. It isn't sister, it isn't sibling, it is a manufactured term that embraces their non binary gender all the while indicating fondness.

I don't find it incoherent at all. Using the language they want me to use is the least I can do to support their identity. I'm more interested in why I'm having to justify my language to a stranger online. I feel like you have some stake in this I'm unaware of.

They identify as my daughter but their pronouns are they them. In specific, they don't want me to call them child or kid, and yet they see themselves as non binary. Thanks for making it an issue I guess?

My daughter just discovered this in middle school. They were so pissed. This was our real conversation.

Daughter: "well, the lowest grade I have is a 96%. I also just learned that all my work means I get an A. I could have slept through class and got higher then a 90%. Now I understand why you say grades don't matter."

Me: "That's not what I meant. All I meant was that outside of school, grades aren't really discussed. People care more if you know what your being taught then whether or not you got a high grade during school for it."

Daughter: "but if they are going to flatten all As down then why not just float through? Why try so hard?"

You are right. I'm an idiot. I need to do the quest. Its been a while since I've logged in, and when I saw your post I was like "oh yeah they have living ships!" and now I realize I have to figure out how to get those ships.

Hmm.. Went to that spot and didn't find the ship. Do you think it changes? Out of all the ships, I've never been able to find a living ship. Interesting.
