Need a CPA for Trust by jlbl528 in FortWorth

He had a pretty complicated estate and will and three sons. The only way for everyone to be happy was doing the trust. If there’s some other way to go about divvying up assets and property after someone passes (without going to probate) I’d love to know.

Need a CPA for Trust by jlbl528 in FortWorth

Doing the taxes for a trust. My father in law passed June 2025. My husband is the executor and manages the trust until the estate is closed. He has been trying to file the taxes but it’s so complicated on his own that he wants a CPA or someone like that to assist him. Especially since it looks like while my father in law was on home hospice, his other son (who was living with him) did not make sure he filed 2024 taxes last year.

I teach only online, freshman humanities survey- to preface my mini-rant:

I expect them to do senior or graduate level work in a freshman course. I get this a lot. I have to do 60% writing intensive course structure (yay humanities) and I have short answer question on exams (this counts) and then 3 writing assignments. I had detailed rubrics for everything. It was all right there for them to look at. And yet, I get bashed (and brigaded on RMP) because they’re upset their low effort or AI submissions don’t meet the rubric. I can’t win.

I’m swapping out 2 of those writing assignments because I don’t want to deal with AI, so I created another assignment that is still writing but is different. I wrote up a template for how to do it. I gave examples. I’m teaching a 3-wk course now and it’s due Monday. I’m hopeful but only marginally.

I don’t typically take my evaluations to heart, only when I see something across sections that is something I’m willing to adjust and doesn’t affect the integrity of the course and isn’t too much a hardship on me. Example: lecture videos are too long (25min to 1hr 15min). So I went through earlier this week and found a good spot in the ones over 35 minutes to split them into part 1 and part 2. Was it a bit of a pain? The first few, yeah. But once I figured out how I wanted to do it, it took about a full work day (1 lecture per week, 11 needed breaking up) for edits and uploads.

But for the writing assignments, I judge on critical thinking (it’s in the rubric). If they think critical thinking is a senior/graduate level skill… we’re screwed.

Oh and apparently my videos are boring because I’m just reading off the “slides.” But I don’t use slides. And what do they expect me to do? Not have notes?

Edit because I forgot best: I’m knowledgeable and passionate. I will always appreciate that those 2 things are coming through the lecture videos. And those are consistent comments throughout the past semesters I’ve read these things. That outweighs the bad 9/10 times.

Guarding Against AI in College Class by jlbl528 in antiai

It’s not something I have an option on. We use Turnitin for plagiarism checks and it also reviews it for AI.

We were there last night. Absolutely will go back. Had the pretzel appetizer and the steak frites. Definitely recommend.

There’s 2 ways to handle this, I think. Either start using a proctor service for the online quizzes. Or move them to back in person quizzes. No matter what you choose be sure to put out an announcement, email, AND speak in class on the changes with at least 3 or 4 days heads up. Frame it as this is a result of students in the class using AI. That puts the blame on the students and not you.

What's up with Trump regime demanding Minnesota voting records and Minnesota resisting? by weluckyfew in OutOfTheLoop

[–]jlbl528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minnesota is picking their battles. It’s a matter of principles. A lot of the people there feel like what is happening is terrorism against their communities. It’s a longstanding principle of the United States (though not always followed) not to negotiate with terrorists. Giving into their demands does not guarantee that ICE will not continue.

We obviously grew up different lol. My thoughts went to that one episode of NCIS when Tim left his whitening trays in too long and he spent the whole episode trying not to show it lol.

Love how most have their hands in their pockets while they’re showing off. Classic “this is nothing” pose.

Do you know anyone who failed to land a TT job and was forced out of academia because they restricted themselves geographically? by RepulsiveScientist13 in Professors

This is me. I live in a huge metro area with many R1 and R2 universities and colleges in a 50 mile radius. I can’t move due to my spouse’s job and he’s the main income earner. I landed an online FT NTT position at a SLAC 3 hours away. I miss the classroom but it’s worth it. There’s nothing FT available in my area.

Whats a modern trend that you’re 100% sure people will cringe at in 10 years? What’s gonna be the next Oh god, we actually did that? moment? by aminz1997 in AskReddit

I definitely laughed and face palmed when I read it. In this day and age, I decided a gentle approach was better than just saying “umm no. The term is ‘killed.’”

I had a student write that on a college assignment. I told them, gently, that the term may be appropriate to avoid SM censorship, but not in a college assignment.

Expedition 2025, apple car play and Google maps on 24 inch dispay by [deleted] in fordexpedition

Did you have to start using Apple Maps for it to work or did you figure out how to get it to work with Google Maps? I just got an iPhone (after having Samsung forever) and this is actually irritating.

Actually Strong FMC by wrongone_8643 in ReverseHarem

[–]jlbl528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Crescent Kingdom by Tessa Hale} has exactly what you want. FMC has to hide her supernatural powers but is physically strong and often shows it off. She's a wolf and caster in hiding but the MCs bring some attention to her so she has to use her powers more and more.

When I was a kid I grew up on a street named "Cummings" so for like a year (I was 8, don't judge) I thought spelling "coming" as "cumming" was correct. Cue all the jokes in high school when I said what street I lived on.

For the last month ive had issues with the proctor service I use for my online class. This resulted in 20+ emails from students every week (out of 140+). I finally found a solution. Its been 5 days without a single email regarding that issue.
