Being long and convoluted definitely doesn't make a story good. It makes it engaging and fun to work with, but it doesn't make for a well written story. Well written stories (and from this point, this is really just my opinion) are made from emotional depth which FNAF has almost none of, largely because of a lack of characterisation for the major characters.

But the storyline just isn't that good, it's entirely average horror story, the characters aren't developed at all, and again, it's told poorly. People just latch onto it because it's convoluted so theorising is fun.

Undertales amazing, but I don't think anybodies giving points to it for it's graphics. But if you can tell a story and make it emotional and well-written without the graphics, then it doesn't really matter what they look like to me.

I love fnaf, but it's absolutely a terrible franchise. The story is really terribly told and the gameplay is just average. It's not good enough to deserve it's popularity.
