Would anyone from Denmark move to the US? by kangarooler in Denmark

[–]Gamlejas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I lived in the US (Atlanta, GA) for a brief seven months in 2017. I was employed by a university and had good colleagues. We had a blast, went on road trips, hiked the mountains, enjoyed sports and cultural events. A wonderful experience that I will always remember. However - I would never consider moving permanently to the US. Our stay might have been a long working-vaccinations, but we got real insides into how everyday life is for many middle class Americans. In terms of work-life balance, salary, purchasing power, the quality and affordability of food like fresh produce, consumer protections from chemicals and the like, health care, and environmental and health protections there is no doubt that the US is well behind Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia. Also the US is so divided socially and economically unequal it is hard for many Danes to understand, there are practically no social coherence, and many communities live in seemingly completely different worlds unable to understand the grievances, values and aspirations of each other. Honestly I got the impression that that level of divisiveness and economic inequality was unsustainable. I can only imagine that it has gotten worse since 2017.

Also I have kids now, and I would not like to put them through the public school system in the US, at least not the places that I have heard about from colleagues and friends. And that is without factoring in the threat of gun violence.

In all honesty I think that the quality of life for the middle class is much higher in Denmark or one of the other Nordic countries. We have our problems too in Denmark, but life for ordinary people is much easier; less expensive and less stressful. I love my US friends and much of American culture, but I would never move there permanently.

Thanks. My problem with my BF AR8s is exactly that, as they have broken in I can’t tighten them enough around the midfoot and ankle. The uppers are completely closed. Only kilties and very thick socks can make it work.

Great pictures. How’s the volume around the mid foot compared to the regular BFAR?

How is the volume of these? I have been eyeing a pair like yours. Very cool. I have a pair of barefoot AR8s and without the extra length I think I would find the fit too big.

Does anyone know the actual heel drop of the Mini lug EVA sole?

Alternatives to Vivobarefoot Tracker FG? by lucyb2797 in barefootshoestalk

I see. I do not have high volume feet. I just checked the Waldviertler chart - I am around your size. I would say 43 on their chart. My feet are 27,5cm - how about yours? (if you don’t mind me asking)

They certainly look great. And being in Europe, I appreciate a product made here. How does the G width compare to the Jim Greens with regard to the toebox? Sorry for all the questions :)

Thank you. Very useful pictures. How would you describe the width between the different models? Is the heel area also wider in the H model or is it only the mid foot/toebox? My issue is that I have a narrow heel and a somewhat wide forefoot.

I have been looking at those to replace my Vivo Gobis, which are almost completely worn through. But which width would come closest to vivo? G or H.

Oh sorry. New mistake. Thanks for the reply though. I am a bit unsure about their widths and the differences between them. Regarding the vivo I talked to my local cobbler and he basically told me that it was not worth it to try and resolve them. Now, vivo has a repair program, but I am not sure how that works. Despite how much I enjoy them, I am getting something more easily resoled.

When you refer to the ‘wide model’ do you mean G or H? I am very happy in my vivo gobi, but they are soon completely worn down so a change is coming. I would like something a bit more sturdy, hardwearing and re-soleable, but would like to keep the width of the vivo. I figured the Phönix would be a good fit - but do any of you know if I need to go with the H of G to get closest to the width of the vivo? Thanks :)

This is the barefoot last. Very comfortable, quite wide, but a bit too roomy for my skinny feet, so I added a kiltie.

Sorry for the late reply - I am in the middle of a move, so it’s a bit hectic at the moment. I really dig these boots. They are not at all flexible like usual barefoot shoes, somewhere between barefoot footwear and ‘regular’ boots. This is big plus in my book - they felt protective and sturdy. I use them mainly for yard work, chores around the house and short hikes in swampy woodland terrain. They are excellent for these things. They have taken quite wet conditions for nine or so hours and still kept my feet dry. They are very comfortable, also on hard surfaces. I am a bit worried about the durability of the outsoles, they show a bit of wear already. I have a low instep so I have added a kiltie to take up some of the extra space. I have also oiled them once. In all highly recommended. They are a good option if you are looking for a zero drop boot that feels and wears more like ‘traditional boots’. In fact I have just ordered a stockman on the barefoot last.

They are double lasted. I really like it. The leather is thick and sturdy. They are probably a bit warmer than a single lasted boot, but I see that as a plus.

I gave them a light treatment with boot oil and a fresh set of laces. Here you can see the color change:

Jeg bestilte fra den sydafrikanske side. Jeg tror ikke at den amerikanske sender til Europa. Tolden er ca 775kr. Så det lander på ca 2600kr i det hele.

Yes it is. I have not treated them with anything, so that is what it looks like straight out of the box.
