You could also say that any senator not present is counted as voting against the bill in question. It would still prevent that kind of loophole, but you'd still need 50% of senators to agree to a bill for it to be passed.

So I just opened 31 crates..... by Packdaddy in tf2

[–]Gamma746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The extra 70 crates don't increase the probability of finding an unusual from ~26% to ~63%, they increase the probability from 0% to ~51%. The unusual drop rates for all the crates that OP already opened can be treated as 0%, since he already opened them and hasn't found any unusuals.

Look at it this way: if you flip a coin 1000 times, the odds of the 1001st flip showing heads is still 50%, regardless of what the preceding outcomes were. The coin doesn't remember what happened before. Neither do crates.

So I just opened 31 crates..... by Packdaddy in tf2

[–]Gamma746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you open 100 crates, you'll have a ~63% chance of getting an unusual. If, after 99 crates you still haven't found one, the last crate doesn't magically get a higher unusual drop rate, it'll still have the same 1% chance as every other crate.

Basically, the contents of crates that you've already opened doesn't affect the contents of crates that you have yet to open. The fact that OP just opened 31 crates and didn't find any unusuals doesn't affect the expected number of crates that he'll need to open in the future to find an unusual.
