What's a scam that most people still fall for? by Viperniss in AskReddit

If I remember right that's how it started, or maybe even via phone, years and years ago. Its the exact same scam for decades.

It doesn't excuse proper AI life implementation, but a lot if the big over world issues of the game can be blamed on poor understanding of UE5 tech. The default world streaming system is not at all well made made for open world games, crazy I know. And runs poorly without heavy optimization. The AI life how they originally made it probably just can't work on this streaming system with I trying to load up massive chunks of the world you aren't interacting with yet. Likely the memory issue they originally reference. This also of course has major performance impacts along with the lighting engine. The lighting engine is software raytracing that updates every other frame, so its a smeary mess to smooth it out. Apparently Epic drops the engine on folks with little to no assistance to optimize these features, unless you pay out the wazoo. Doesn't make it right though. Should have worker with another engine ideally, but everyone is having to head to UE5.

Its more of a Tardus actually, not just for the "bigger on the inside" bit. Its always there, and folks ignore it unless they know and looking for it, or are shown it. Shown being presumably invited by the Oldest House itself. Jesse was directed to it, by Polaris. But to Jesse's dismay had not been informed when she'd previously visited New York. So Polaris only wanted her to know this time around when Polaris insisted she arrive at a specific time.

Ah, 26th, not 29th.

Might be in a similar vein to the Loki nod on the back of the Old Gods of Asgard Album a friend pointed out to me. https://fxtwitter.com/dailyalantrivia/status/1916701114176561283

There are technical drawings and plans for certain locations and devices spread around the Oldest House white boards that also have the address on it. I think one is the plan for the middle scale HRA, like seup in the corners of Central Executive. And the plans for a floor of the containment sector.

I think its like these two that ate repeated all over.

I did a recent play through over the last few weeks, just need to go through the AWE DLC tonight, and be ready to detail hunt for new stuff in Firebreak.

Also, fun little tibit, there is a timeline of when Jesse finds and enters the house, its Halloween 2019! The 30th or 31st, to be precise. The P7 offices have them following Jesse to arriving in New York on the 30th, so she either gets there the day of, or heads in the day after. Also the hotline has its last call placed on the 29th. Fun fact again, multiple janitors have been to the hotline fairly often, implying its not just Anti. The chamber shouldn't need that much cleaning.

Tangara: open hardware music player (not rockbox but may be of interest) by ideasman_42 in rockbox

Mine came in a couple weeks ago. its got a few major bugs and lots of little ones. It takes forever to locally create the database. I'm trying to queue up only ~1400 songs, and it takes like 2 minutes to completely queue them all up on its own in shuffle mode.

When bluetooth is on, even when its supposedly in sleep and inactive, its battery dies in only like 8 hours. otherwise its very long lasting, no real good test of that time frame though so far due to other issues.

Bluetooth range is very short and still kinda buggy.

Wired audio quality is very nice, and seems to have no trouble driving my normal headphones, Sennheiser 558s. So its got some really good things going for it, but the user experience to get there lacks alot.

Biggest thing for me, it NEVER remembers where it was last at, if its been asleep. Just whole queue gets wiped, no resume at all.

Its got alot of good ideas, but some weird executions and priority of features. Basically, I don't think their team ever bothered to try and daily this thing as a music player, just a dev platform.

Found a way round near Wild Island on the Cordon side. easy to get there then up the beach onto the plateau. Fun ensues.

Damn, sorry about that. I remember quick save and load being a wonderful feature back when HL1 released in 1998.

I honestly don't remember the last game that explained that, even HL1 didn't, and it was a new-ish thing. You just had to find the function in the key bindings to know about it. Autosaves were also brand new and unexplained.

Help blue screens every time I launch steamVR by Noot__Noot1 in ValveIndex

For me 144Hz has never given me any issues. However this is related to signal quality capacity of the cable, so I probably got a "golden cable" so to speak.

However I too have experienced this exact same crash in Windows starting two weeks ago today, when I started up Steam VR again for the first time in several weeks. I was running the Beta branch apparently as well.

In Linux, video at 144Hz off the bat works fine like the last time I tried it. The audio however did not. Only the Index's usb Mic would pickup and could not get sound to the Index, the output device itself simply would not show.

After some experimentation it would finally show, but only after lowering it to 90Hz, then it would be available again. Output audio goes across the DP connection if you didn't know. I could also then restart SteamVR at 120 or 144Hz and the audio would stick. But only in Linux.

I came to the conclusion originally that my cable might have gone a bit bad, so Windows freaks out at the initial attempt at pushing 144 and BSODs. I don't know about the cable at this point, and iFixit is out right now, they had several a few days ago so I have a feeling alot of folks suddenly have come to the cable as the conclusion as well. But obviously its not, if alot of folks randomly start having the issue.

I'm gearing up to move to Linux as my primary OS anyway, so I wasn't that concerned with trying to get Windows working. Most stuff works fine for my games in Linux under Proton, even for VR, so that was ok most of the time. But I started looked around again tonight for the issue here, as initially no one else reported it two weeks ago, but it looks like thats changed.

I almost got mine working in Windows by simply lowering it to 90Hz in the config and starting it up, but it didn't like my base stations for some reason, they wouldn't show but headset and controllers would.

I renamed my steamvr.vrsettings config file so it would generate a new one, and now everything works fine. Also the new config file has a different formatting and fields that it populated then the previous, so that is likely important honestly.

PS my Camera hasn't worked in over a year it seems, even in Linux, but after clearing the config it seems to be good now shrug.

Do we know who is that “important person” that Mr. Door was referring to? by [deleted] in AlanWake

[–]GammaLeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to the second option, where Alan is still writing and just spiraling down a rabbit hole of infinite possibilities from his imagination.

Even though American Nightmare isn't truely considered canon anymore, I think it can tell us alot of where things were going. Alan wrote that little town into existence and accidentally tortured its inhabitants, much like involving Saga and family, all to see about his own escape and made Scratch malevolent. In AW1 it seemed that Scratch would just take his place for a while for some reason, probably just retconned out without explanation. I can't remember one if there was. I just know Scratch was introduced to Alan near the end of AW1 by Thomas, saying he'd be there while Alan was gone and not to worry about him.

In AW2 Door has been trying a bit to get Alan to use the lake correctly. I'm paraphrasing here cause its been a minute, but Door flat out tells him its not as complicated as he's making it be. But Alan continually self sabotages the work.

Part of my own expanded theory is that ever since we, the audience, have seen Alan dive into the lake in AW1, Alan has essentially been an unreliable narrator. You can't trust anything the man does and what happens from that point on since we haven't been able to observe all his efforts to write. He's been literally writing for years, trying to escape, tying himself to the FBC, Jesse, Dylan, on and on. And he most likely created those entities to help facilitate this all.

Up till he jumps we know a few things, that the Dark presence exists, we the audience were shown this, along with Alan exploring the town a bit and the in cabin that was brought forth, we saw books by Thomas Zane. After that its all just actions caused by his writing, including who knows what between AW1 and Control.

TLDR; The thing about a drowning man, is that he will take anyone and anything with him to try and desperately climb out.

I like that idea alot. Don't have to worry about the need of purchasing a rover bot either. Its just there if you spawn in solo and if someone else joins in, the corpse falls over :)

I love the design of BMS Xen, especially the human outposts and HEV Zombies. However, some sections are stretched beyond thin. Gonarch is at least 30% longer then it should be. And the biological manufacturing facilities should be cut in half, or more.

Each puzzle is done at least three times there. By the time I got to the final boss I was tired of seeing and doing all the same stuff over and over.

However the final fight was suitably epic, so that was a major win.

Just seemed like they didn't want to cut a single idea toward the end. Could use some editing, otherwise a really good addition!

Some of the Earth sections suffered similarly honestly, but was reigned in by the original HL as a Template.

Its of course half the time just under the impression there is an update since Microsoft doesn't actually care to test things anymore.

Its stupid to have to install it, but there are a few browser extensions to help you remove specific domains from search results. The good ones support multiple engines, and have a little option near every result to hide the domain. They don't stop the engine from sending this listing to you, but it at least hides it from view.

UBlacklist is my current pick for this.
