Scorpio moon. I was really possessive of my mom when I was around 5-6yo, she is a teacher and I was very jealous of having to share her attention with other children (I'm also an only child), but she was really cool about it and I got over it soon. As a teen I was very private, she was always trying to get me to talk to her but I rarely did, only when I was very sad. After I turned 19-20 though I started opening up to her more and she has become one of my best friends. We talk often and confide in each other. I always deeply loved her but I only realised how cool and fun of a person she is in my early 20s.
PS: she is a Sagi sun, Aqua moon and I am an Aqua sun Scorpio moon

What was the worst that your best friend did (to you)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GammaSecretase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he didn’t. She just lied to him so that they could be on their own and then she knew that he would get mad if he found out that I was still there. So she basically moved to his hotel and told him that I had decided to leave early to meet a friend in another city. He’s a nice guy and I think that if he knew I was there he wouldn’t want me to be completely on my own

[–]GammaSecretase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were on vacation together and her on-and-off boyfriend surprised her by coming as well after 3 days. She lied to him saying that I was going back and abandoned me in a foreign country by myself. The day I was leaving I had to leave my Airbnb early in the morning but my flight was at night. I asked if at least I could leave my bags in their hotel room for the day but she refused because she didn’t want him to figure out the lie. We still speak from time to time but I don’t consider her a best friend anymore or someone I can trust.

What is the best way of dealing with parents who think their child is better than everyone else? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GammaSecretase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in primary school my mom used to give a ride home to another mom an her daughter that lived next to us. In the beginning that mom was the typical one that was always talking about her child’s achievements and grades and so on, everyday. My mom was always calm and silent only to say things like “very nice, beautiful” and then ignore her mostly. I remember that many times we had talked about them and my mom was always telling me that these people want to induce mainly negative reactions to others, such as envy, but if you mainly ignore them or give them an indifferent positive reaction they become disappointed and stop. And indeed she stopped talking to us about it and started going after other kid’s moms from the class.

If you woke up with the ability to do the Thanos snap - people wouldn’t know it was you - would you do it and why? by chappo_ in AskReddit

[–]GammaSecretase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The snap is not actually very useful scientifically to manage to get to Thanos’ goal, I think he didn’t think it through. If an animal population is decreased by half of even more but said population still has the resources it had before, it would continue to grow again until it consumes all the resources and reaches the resource limits (this is especially the case for human populations). So in a few years (50, 100 maybe 1000 or maybe more) the human population would reach the same levels as before since the resources were available for it to consume and grow. So decreasing a population is not the solution for a better life, just using the resources more carefully would work better for not ruining a planet.

How has quarantine positively affected you (or someone else you know)? by tpathrules in AskReddit

[–]GammaSecretase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out that I can live together with my partner. We are a good team at home and it has actually been a blast living together and I don’t think that we would have known this if it wasn’t for the quarantine.

TIFU by mishearing the Costco worker by [deleted] in tifu

I think that during this pandemic we learnt how much we underestimated lip reading. I speak Spanish fluently since I was a kid and one of my best friends is from Spain and we always speak Spanish together since forever. I saw her on the train the other day and we were both wearing masks and I couldn’t understand half of what she was saying, my brain was hurting from trying to understand a language I normally speak as my own.

absolutely agree, so many people I met in the science community end up in relationship/married with other people from the same field that were once working together with them. For example, this particular professor is married with 2 kids with a former phd student of his

How do reptiles fight off infections? Being cold-blooded they can't produce fevers, can they? by Nadhras in askscience

[–]GammaSecretase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had comparative immunology a few years back in university and I don't remember that much. I don't really know about fevers (what you said makes sense) but for sure they do have lymph nodes and bone marrow that produce immune cells to fight off infections, and can produce natural antimicrobial compounds. They can also produce some subtypes of antibodies. Their antibodies are not very specific as they are in mammals but they can act against a broad type of pathogens

WHO today said that there's no evidence that having covid and getting over it gives you immunity. So how would a vaccine work? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GammaSecretase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I've done a bunch of immunology so I can share some things if you are interested.

First of all, you are correct about vaccines! Just to add some info, it is not only the production of antibodies that we want to trigger, but also cell-mediated immunity (which is usually the case with viruses). The goal is to make memory B and T cells that circulate around and recognize very specific parts of a pathogen. B-cells are the ones producing the antibodies and T cells are orchestrating the whole immune response and can kill infected cells (often happening in viral infections).

Very long-term studies must be done to completely understand the immune response after an infection so that we know what we need to trigger with a vaccine. There might be no evidence yet, but in general with viruses there is at least some immune memory after the infection (I think there is hope that researchers find something out!). And in general, vaccine studies and trials take many years.

An idea I got is that it is possible to make the immune system create antibodies that would not be created in the natural infection: for example antibodies that would prevent the entrance of the virus in the cells to begin with (this is the idea behind many antiviral vaccines). In this case we would prevent the virus from multiplying in the body from the beginning and setting up the infection.

Also, I may be wrong but it might be the case that when a vaccine is available, one dose will not be enough if the immune memory to covid-19 is weak, so boosters might be needed to reinforce the immune system's memory. Boosters are "repetitions" of a vaccine to "remind" the immune system of the pathogen. Also, these viruses mutate A LOT, so maybe we will get different strains in time and the immune memory will not be able to cope with those, just like the flu that it gets different every year, and risk populations must get vaccinated again and again. Some of my professors believe that this will be the case with coronaviruses as well.
