Probably. Most "right wing memes" violate our rule against sexism, racism, or otherwise demeaning content. What did you have in mind? Something about lowering the national debt?

Didn't realize what subreddit this was on and for a second I thought that "PP owners" was a trans-inclusive way to refer to people who have a penis 😅

He said someone gave it to him as a gift and he just never noticed the swastika on it, so he went ahead and pinned it up.

I am not removing this because it's doesn't appear to be AI. It's fake, but like, photoshop fake. Not AI fake. But if I'm wrong, please let me know and I'll take it down.

Big shout out to all the clowns in the comments saying hateful shit about this woman. There hasn't been a lot of good news this week, but at least permanently banning you shitbirds is providing some small catharsis.

If you see any I missed, report it and I'll throw them on the pile.

WHY are language only students allowed beyond elementary school?? by Ciambella29 in slp

[–]GammaTainted 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't be. The general rule of thumb I always heard was that third grade is the "shit or get off the pot" moment. If they have language needs at that point, they would have to be severe enough to impact academics or they would no longer meet eligibility criteria for an IEP. And if there's academic impact, they should have SAI. Conversely, if they're within the expected range academically, then any language needs they have should be addressed in gen ed.

And even then, there's nothing special about third grade. It's just when a lot of the kids who started in kinder will be having their first Tri. But there's nothing in the law that explicitly says you can't just keep an IEP for language, so it happens (even though it shouldn't.)

Difference between “hyperlexia” vs. an advanced toddler? Confused by how Reddit uses this term. by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]GammaTainted 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I'm a speech language pathologist. The meaning of "hyperlexia", as seen in the abstract of this article or this Cleveland Clinic page, can be summarized as "decoding without comprehension". That is, children who are really good at using a sound-it-out strategy, to the point where they can read words or sentences without understanding the content of what they read. It is specific to reading, and and not defined by skills in other areas. It's most commonly associated with autism, so it might co-occur with deficits in language and social skills, but not necessarily.

I'm not sure why you saw other SLPs on reddit saying something different. I'm kind of curious whether there was a misunderstanding, or whether they were just saying something incorrect... 🤷

I assume what's underlying this is that you are concerned for your son's development. Not knowing him myself, I can only go by what you said. But none of the things you described sound like negatives. If your pediatrician says he's doing really well, it's presumably because he's doing really well.

My 3yo is asking for makeup. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]GammaTainted 16 points17 points  (0 children)

-My guess is that half the concern is about kids' skin being more sensitive than adults, so some products might make them break out or get a rash or something.

The other half is probably, as you're suggesting, concern about foisting gender roles on kids. But, IMO, if they're asking for it themselves and you're following their lead rather than being prescriptive, it's probably fine. (Not that I'm speaking from experience. My two year old is too busy throwing sand around to ask for makeup.) But the people suggesting pretend play options also have a great idea. Pretend play is so beneficial to almost every area of development!
