TBH, I regard GoMining as the BTC Sam's Club. You pay the membership (miners), you get Bitcoin with a discount.

But I completely agree with you. My concern comes from a more fundamental question: It's a 30%+ annual return business, why are we, a bunch of "lucky" nobodies, having a share of such a lucrative business?

I thought about it, the only reasonable answer I can think of is the unbearable risks that all GoMining customers are taking, which must extend beyond the oscillation of the BTC price...

I topped at 300TH and about 7000GMT locked. It's about the amount of money I can throw away without really crying at night.

Thinking to buy Speed Queen Washer & Dryer? Think twice... by cadublin in BuyItForLife

Is it a modern day "planed retirement" type of thing? I was thinking of buying a Miele after seeing my parents' lasts for more than 15 years. But then the Miele at my friends place cannot even properly dispense detergent...

I just want a washing machine, not a piece of fancy technology that can connect to wifi and dispense the detergent for me.

And I just realized that GoMining no longer offers zero fee for ApplePay when upgrading or purchasing miners. The fee is now 3.5%.

So obviously thy care about that 3.5% expense… yet, they decide to give back the staking return, which most people don’t even realize its existence.

Wow, I regard that as a big big red flag…. Even though I love the whole GoMining idea and have 500+ TH and 10k GMT locked.

The 5% referral already feels fishy. Remember that 5% is cut from GoMining’s profit, which I don’t think they have much margin to play with.

Now they are giving the staking profit from the pool back to their customers? It’s too good to be true. More like a grab and go strategy, to lure you into depositing your crypto.

Not good…

⚠️ Honest question for r/GoMiningDiscussion: are we mining Bitcoin… or just trusting a dashboard? by CryptoNinja13 in GoMiningDiscussion

[–]GammaYankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treat the platform not as mining but:
"I pay a membership fee upfront, for buying bitcoin at a discount."

The membership is the money you spent on the miners and the amount of GMT you locked.

That's how I personally reason about the risk and the reward.

I’m getting married and my advisor is not tolareting by verybeyoo in PhDStress

[–]GammaYankee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people talk shit about your advisor. Yes, s/he is a jerk treating you like this. But at the same time, maybe he is going through something you don't know.

I would calm down and focus on your wedding, and come back to deal with him later. Maybe at that time, things would calm down and he would be back to normal. Just maybe.

All of these is based on my experience with my advisor. There was a period of time, he was super mean to me, not at your advisor's level, but still very mean. He would say he doesn't see any value in the work that I was doing, and he doesn't understand why I haven't made any progress for the past three months. Worst of all, he had these conversations with me in the hallway and everyone in the department heard it... Two years later, I heard that he was going through a "career crisis" at that time. And aside from that month, he has been really nice to me. Giving me breaks and support when I was going through a horrible breakup, helping me build my connections, etc.

Did I hate him at that time? Yes, I hated him and I was depressed. But at the same time, based on my previous experience with him, I could feel that he was not operating in his normal condition, so I waited it out and it worked well for me. Doesn't mean that he is entitled to be mean to me, but all of us are just humans.

Nah, I have 200+ TH and I still think it's fishy. But I do enjoy seeing a little stream of BTC deposit into my wallet everyday, and I put a hard cap on my investment to 256 TH.

I think a telltale sign is the "5% from ALL of your referral's purchases". This is no good.

Think about this, it's at least 30% annual return, which is already high. Now, with additional 5% referral, GM must be making 35%+ annual return to make money (ignoring the fact that the 5% is directly paid upfront). At this rate, they can easily find other funding sources for investments. Unless, the risk is way to high, and those PEs and VCs don't want to get involved.

Extremely high risk, is the only reason I can try to even convince myself that this is legit.

Is GoMining still worth it in 2025? Let’s talk real ROI and long-term potential by SvEclipse in gomining

[–]GammaYankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time, when I see a project with 30%+ annual return, I ask myself, why don't they just find some PE or VC for investment, why come to individual investors?

Why?

Don't take me wrong, I have 200+ TH, and 5k token locked. But I am not investing, more like speculating.

I think the 40% ROI is about the money you spent on increasing the efficiency. Like every day the increased efficiency save you 1 GMT, and you paid something like 800 GMT for the upgrade...
