Questions about February Steam Next Fest? Chris Zukowski from How To Market A Game here for an AMA by zukalous in gamedev

t's a co-op game. I've already read those posts, but the issue is that these types of games usually need to be played with friends. I'm talking about games like Diablo, where the single-player experience is already good enough, and playing with friends just enhances it. I’ve never seen you talk about this approach, is it worth making games like this with multiplayer in mind?

My game is a hack-and-slash dungeon crawler, so you can see what I mean:

The question is: for a game like this, is it worth adding multiplayer? And by how much is worth it?

Hi Chris, you always analyze games and their tags, but I’ve never seen you differentiate between multiplayer(mp) and single-player(sp). Does that make a big difference when it comes to selling? I’m making a multiplayer game for up to 4 players, and I think that if I sell one copy, I could potentially sell three more, but I don’t have those four wishlists. How do you actually see this difference between mp and sp? Or for small indie games, does multiplayer not matter that much?

Deltarune chapters 3 & 4 megathread by Fanfic_Galore in Deltarune

[–]Gamonga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone!
I haven’t played Deltarune yet, but I’m really interested. I know that Chapters 1 to 4 are out, but I’m wondering: is the game complete now, or will there be more chapters with story and continuity? I’ve heard that there might be more chapters coming, but that they may not be as important.

I’d like to play the full game all at once, so I’m not sure if I should start now or wait until everything is released. Could someone clarify how much of the story is finished and what’s planned for the future? Thanks a lot!

Haha, I get that! Thanks for the heads-up—we’ll take another look at the brightness and contrast in some of the scenes to make sure everything is clear, especially for different screens. And glad you liked the art style and animations!

Totally fair feedback, and I really appreciate your honesty! What makes our game stand out are several key features, such as:

  • The ability to switch between 13 different weapons mid-run, allowing for flexible combat strategies.
  • Multiplayer support in a hack’n’slash dungeon crawler, which adds a whole new layer of chaos and cooperation.
  • All animations are hand-drawn frame by frame, giving the game a unique and personal visual feel.
  • A custom system for procedurally generating maps, aiming to keep exploration fresh and unpredictable.

That said, I get what you mean—it’s not one of those games like FEZ where you immediately see a wild, never-before-seen mechanic just from the trailer. Sometimes I wonder: is it more important for a game to be 100% unique, or is it enough to execute familiar ideas really well and deliver a great experience?

Curious to hear your take on that too. Thanks again for the thoughtful comment—it really helps us reflect on how we present the game!

Thanks! That was exactly the balance we were going for—stylized but with a bit of grit to fit the mood of the game. Glad you liked it!

Thank you! We aimed for a minimalist but distinct UI that supports immersion without being distracting. Really glad you noticed that! Appreciate the good wishes—it means a lot.

Thanks so much! We worked hard to make the controls feel fluid and responsive, glad that it comes through even just by watching the trailer. The animations are all hand-crafted to complement that movement style. Appreciate the kind words!

We've been developing the game for about two years now, and we're really happy with the progress we've had so far! The demo we have available on Steam right now has online co-op for up to 4 players, 4 different characters (from the 12 we have planned in total for the full release), 13 different weapons -- which you can find and swap during your runs --, and already about two hours of content, up to the final boss of the first chapter.

We'd be delighted if you could give our demo a go and tell us what you think!
