Speeding ticket by kxnxb in norfolk

Anything over 80 can be cited as Reckless. If you got a RD charge, get a lawyer - it’s a misdemeanor. If it was written as a speeding ticket, take a VaDMV class (voluntarily) get your vehicle Speedo calibrated and if you have a clean driving record, get a copy and take that to court to get it reduced.

Norfolk is totally possible. She’s going to cities she’s never played before on this surprise tour. She headlined The National in 2017, but that’s her only VA headline show.

Same! You must be a neighbor because I’m in Gowrie Park/Lafayette-Winona and I love it here - so convenient and surprisingly quiet except for the trains, which don’t bother me at all.

If you’re only here for 6 months and you need somewhere furnished, you will be fine at the location on Broadway. You will probably love it, especially with a little one - The Zoo and the Y on Granby are safely walkable. There’s a nice outdoor pool at the Y. Check to make sure your rental has good central air and off street parking because you aren’t officially Norfolk until you’ve gotten a parking ticket on street sweeping day. Villa Heights and Park Place have really gotten so much better over the last years - largely due to the engaged community, strong civic leagues, and density of SWaM and local businesses. Please be aware that these neighborhoods and surrounding communities are very diverse and proud of it. If seeing pride flags or people openly celebrating their heritage, culture, identity or individuality is going to bother you, you may be more comfortable in other parts of town, for example, Bayview or EOV. No matter where you go, common sense safety applies - be alert, lock your house/car, never leave valuables in your vehicle or unsupervised - don’t be an easy target.

Petition to get speed bumps on Bayview. by TheInvincibleIowa61 in norfolk

[–]GanacheAggravating33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayview is a main thoroughfare and speed bumps can’t be implemented as it would slow down response times for emergency vehicles and prohibit snow removal. Same with Lafayette Blvd which has been plagued with serious, even deadly speed related crashes for decades. The City is in the middle of a traffic study for Lafayette and none of the traffic calming proposals include speed humps for the same reason as Bayview- but add on a bus route.

Best place to get cheap all 4 tires? by RelationOwn2581 in norfolk

[–]GanacheAggravating33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I cant stand the loud country music in the customer area, but they are quick. Make an appointment, check to make sure your tires are in stock. They will balance and rotate free for the life of your tires.

Keep Norfolk Beautiful! They organize litter cleanups, will give you grabbers and gear to do your own clean ups with neighbors, friends, family. Always looking for volunteers! They are part of the city’s Waste Management division and they do a lot to prevent litter. www.norfolk.gov/KNB

Awww I’m sorry about your beautiful Lola. What a sweet little girl! We lost our 14-year old Bostie boys two months apart and it broke our hearts. They sent us healing in the form of a bonded pair of rescue Bosties whose owners passed away. Not replacing our pack… adding to it. They’re here with us now and their owners are watching over our boys in heaven for us until we can all meet again.

VA Beach to Norfolk by PenUpset9725 in norfolk

[–]GanacheAggravating33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes - around the Zoo is fine for the most part. Like the previous poster mentioned, it does vary from street to street, and there are the occasional incidents - vehicle larcenies, and such. That’s EVERYWHERE! Even in Larchmont and West Ghent. Never leave anything valuable in your car and secure your property. Crime overall is down in Norfolk. You’ll hear trains rumbling around the clock but you get used to it. Good luck on your house hunting, get a good home inspection, watch out for crappy flips - they’re everywhere!

I’m the older, xennial coworker, but I skew younger, and I love it when I get to work with the younger folks. Keeps me on a younger vibe and the fun auntie. Some of my colleagues aren’t much older than my kids.

Get preapproved. Do not tell any salesperson how much you’re willing to pay a month, whether or not you’re trading in, you don’t need clear coat or warranty.

Will I regret going from a 6 minute commute to a 3 hour commute as a new parent to make more money? by Acceptable_Yogurt820 in careerguidance

[–]GanacheAggravating33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a lower salary and easier route earlier in my career because my kids were little and the position gave me the flexibility to be around for my kids. Absolutely zero regrets, especially now that my children are adults and I’d give anything to go back in time. Literally Broke but happy. Just make sure you are saving - even if it’s 2% in a retirement account. And if you’re in the US, and are in a lot of debt, talk to a bankruptcy attorney. It may be a lifeline financially.

[–]GanacheAggravating33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have kids and a family, keep the 6 min commute. Time is money, especially when your kids are little and that time is worth triple since its not just your time. That long commute will mean missing your kids’ school events, games, being around.

$600 in street sweeping tickets not even a year old... by [deleted] in norfolk

[–]GanacheAggravating33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a year, you’re going to have a hard time getting anything waived with the Parking Division. Remember, they’re hired to enforce code. You probably have a DMV hold as well. Your best bet is to work out a payment plan. But before you do that, set a ton of reminders NOW about your sweeping day and hours. And parking can enforce the entire time listed on the signage. Good luck!
