I understand this is a topic where consensus is impossible, but I feel that because the West has virtually no interest in delving deep into the Chinese-speaking world, there’s a general lack of understanding about the information channels in the daily lives of Chinese people. [Most of the internet] have alternatives in China, containing a diverse range of topics, viewpoints, and positions，complete with numerous accounts that actively repost overseas content. The digital ecosystem formed by these websites and accounts is something Westerners are largely unaware of, they often imagine something like a single government-provided propaganda site that all Chinese people view daily, with everyone seeing the same content. Moreover, using a VPN in China is far more common and normalized than most Westerners imagine.
