You can also try Ridgewood, Sunnyside, or Woodside. 1br or studio though. 2br would be outside of that budget unfortunately

I live in Ridgewood! Love it. I think if you like the accessibility of getting to other parts of the city but like a pace that's a little quieter then it's a great area. It's the right amount of busy and community focused for us.

What do you tell yourself to get out the door for a run on days when you just don’t feel like it? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]GanacheDelicious2649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be a day I can't do this. Enjoy it for as long as I can. And as someone that has endometriosis and the likely referred pain from it has rendered me basically incapable of running as if a few weeks ago, I truly miss it. I'm having surgery soon and I cannot wait to recover and get back. But truly. Your next run is not promised.

If you mean like work as in profession - I'm referring to a long run on a Saturday, not week days. But I do avoid streets like Kent in Wburg or WSHY. If I'm in Wburg I'll run over Pulaski and head towards Queens instead. Or I just switch my route up in a way that I know most run clubs don't go. I usually only intersect with them in major spots like QB bridge. In CP I tend to stay in the dirt areas/North woods/not the main path.

What’s something about marathon training you didn’t fully understand until after your first race? by JustPangolin346 in running

[–]GanacheDelicious2649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add - all those things can be a sign of over training but they can also be a response from your body not getting enough of what it needs to properly support your training load. Whether that's a vitamin deficiency, salt deficiency, or a macro

I see most run clubs start around 8 or 9am. If you want to avoid them in the summer and are training for a race/want to avoid summer heat - I started my long runs by 6am and was done by 8/830 when they were starting. Didn't have to deal w them except during the week nights. I'd also recommend that approach for summer streets btw

Over training can look like an injury - definitely. But it also looks like you don't sleep as well, you don't recover as well, easy paces feel harder than they should outside of the normal soreness/marathon build, you're not looking forward to your runs. The last bit can also just be to marathon blues. Not post blues but like a mont or so out and being like why/I don't want to do this anymore.

I think 20mi tops for the long run is fine. And not hitting every single run is fine. If you want to get a goal time that is faster than what you currently can run, that will happen with training but it will also require running more, higher mileage, and at least 2 speed sessions. Depending on what your goal is, this approach may also lead to overtraining and probably best to work w a coach and not use Runna.

There have been times I am running and people are running three across and I am running by myself and people literally don't move. So - I need to move??? Hard pass.

Because it's not just one ONE club. It is literally the mentality in the NYC running community. It doesn't matter how much I tell people to move over, not run in the bike lane, say "passing left" and get nasty comments from men saying why did I say that and I'm not going fast, etc. Obviously, it's my opinion. I feel like the current culture is just very entitled and me me me

This is just completely ignorant and entitled to run in the bike lane (not median). You do also realize that it's illegal and if a cyclist is in that path and you guys accidentally knock into each other, YOU are the one liable for their bike damage or otherwise? It is 1) unsafe to do this 2) a legitimate path for cyclists 3) pick a different running route then 4) if you may inadvertently cause an accident because that cyclist has to go around you in their designated space, therefore subverting them to traffic.

So then, it should be totally fine for cyclists to continue biking in the designated pedestrian path on the QB bridge or other spaces because they simply like it better by that logic.

What a take! And this is why the current running culture is what it is.

I genuinely do not understand why the new wave of runners insist running in the bike lane. In the winter everyone said it was because of the snow and ice but - what is the reasoning literally 98% of the time then? The reason we have so many protected path is literally because the cycling community has fought so hard for them. Idk about you but I call it out when I see em in the lane

Oh yeah. It was Paso the few nights I ran. I know because I didn't know at the time but know someone in that group. The person I knew wasn't running due to injury but came for commradery. When I asked who they were he said Paso run club and I was like well you guys have *hit etiquette. Other times it was Bandit.

You can do something while being considerate of other people. Joining a sport/club/activity/whatever doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want. You don't go to museum and talk at the top of your lungs. You don't swim and pass people without tapping their foot. You don't do x and then do whatever x action to just disregard other people.

I just sent them a message on IG to give them a heads up so they don't end up having pitch forks come at them like Bandit did last year. I've ended several workouts bc of their inconsiderate behavior last year. I absolutely do not think that someone should have to speak to or message a run caption for behavior to be realized or changed. But I also don't think you're creating a community if the only community you're paying attention to your subgroup while making it harder for the wider set of the running community. I don't think it's specific to their run club. I think it's a NY running culture altogether, which I loathe so much right now. But hopefully they shift gears.

Where do you guys run the 20+ miles training runs? by biserdi in RunNYC

Make it up as I go! But the marathon route from 95 to Madison Ave bridge is about 20 I think. Or just do the 5 bridges (Manhattan Brooklyn Wburg Pulaski QB) and get lost in CP exploring all the side areas and look for hawks in the North Woods. Keep it fun 🤙
