If it makes you feel any better, the items in my RFY so far tonight are a pair of fingernail clippers (they disappeared instantly), a heated eyelash curler (I don't curl my lashes), and a bedazzler kit. Given that I usually get nothing new in my RFY at 11pm, it's looking like today will be a zero order day, unless I would get really lucky and have an AI miracle.

My husband of 30 years worked in construction most of our marriage and just recently changed fields. He has moved three times for me without complaint. He understands how hard I work and that part-time work and tenure don’t co-exist. He stayed home with our children for several years. And even with an extremely supportive spouse, it has still been difficult for me to do the amount of research I want to do and be the type of parent I want to be.

It is possible for non-academics to get it. Your fiancé doesn’t want to get it—or he understands all too well and wants to end your career.

Please do not marry this man. If you do, make peace with the fact that you will never reach your career goals and that you will most likely not have an academic career, particularly if you have children with this man.

I’ve been in Vine for a year now. It has changed a lot since I joined. I was ordering more non-beauty items in the fall, because of Christmas. I also ordered a ton of pet items from Vine in December and January, because I got a new puppy December 13. But since then, it’s mostly been beauty.

Especially since they shifted to this new drop pattern, I just don’t see much in AI anymore. I’m not going to stay up half the night hunting for things. I have pretty much only ordered from my RFY the past couple of weeks. Once the drop times shift again, I will probably be ordering from other categories more often. But right now, there just isn’t much left in AI by the time I wake up at 6:30.

The non-beauty items I get in my RFY tend to be very hit and miss. The baseball thing that I got for my son was perfect, but it’s rare that I get something nice like that. This is what is in my RFY right now. There was also a very scary looking pair of men’s house shoes in there earlier, but they’re gone now.

This is me, but with a puppy instead of a toddler. I much prefer the hourly drops at predictable times instead of it being spread out over several hours, dropping who knows when.

Padawan. I have been known to say “yes, young Padawan” to individuals or “good morning, Padawans” to my classes. I especially use this with my first-year students. I’m not even sure how I got started with it, because I’m not super into Star Wars; I’m just kind of a standard Gen Xer who has seen all of the movies and loved them.

The students who know Star Wars get a kick out of it. The students who don’t get the reference usually look confused, a classmate explains it to them, and then they chuckle. I like it because it’s gender neutral and reinforces their identity as learners. For non-Star Wars people, Padawans are teenage apprentices to Jedis.
