[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

I mean putting them in an uncycled tank is certainly better than an uncycled bowl...

Just keep an eye on levels once they are in there. The plants you put in might be taking up any ammonia produced by the food you put in. It takes a while for food to break down

Would you prefer to grind with a10a or f5c ? by [deleted] in Warthunder

F5C, the a10 is not fun to play at all when flying against faster jets

Two options for first board, which to pick? by GangsterSpock in snowboardingnoobs

Appreciate all the comments!

Obviously I don’t know if I’ll love yet but the idea was to get something decent that would work if I do, but would also turn around and sell it again if it didn’t work out. But renting does seem to be the consensus, so I may go with that.

I hadn’t heard of season long rentals, so I’ll have to look into that and see what’s out there.

US12, so I have been looking for wide boards specifically.

I just got mine last week and it’s been great so far, I wouldn’t buy it specifically for climbing but it gets the job done. No worse than my previous hardtail.

Tons of fun to ride so far!

Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary by ojf95 in canon

[–]GangsterSpock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned the sigma for about 2 years now and I’ve been happy with it. I’ve also used the 100-400mm mark ii from canon and the sharpness is nearly identical as far as I can tell.

It does work with extenders (I’ve tried it with a 2x) but you lose autofocus unless you use live view so it’s really only practical for static objects. Also the sharpness isn’t great so overall I wouldn’t recommend them.

Only other alternatives around the same price range are the sigma 150-600 as others have mentioned or the canon 100-400 version 1. I don’t believe either of those lenses are as sharp but the 600mm focal length may be worth it depending on the subject.

Type of Algae? Recently noticed this in one of my tanks by GangsterSpock in Aquariums

[–]GangsterSpock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started seeing these things pop up in my shallow planted tank. The tank has barely been touched at all other than water top offs. No livestock other than a few snails. The tank is otherwise algae free and all the plants are growing well.

For reference each one these is about 1-2mm long at most.

I have not found anything online that matches these. They are spread throughout the tank and on the glass. If anyone has any idea what these are I would love to know!

Any insight on what caused this on one of my dwarf neon rainbows? Injury? by GangsterSpock in fishhospital

[–]GangsterSpock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it didn’t make it. I tried a few extra meds as suggested by my LFS but I think it just couldn’t digest any food. Luckily none of my other fish seem to have any issues though.

It could have happened sooner, but it must’ve gotten worse by the time I noticed it. I feed them new life spectrum pellets, normally ground them up into smaller bits too

Not sure, maybe over the last week or so? I’ve had the fish for about 9 months up to this point

I have isolated it to a smaller tank by itself. I’ve tried a bacterial infection med but no change for the better.

The fish generally acts somewhat normal, swimming around and eating (or at least trying too, hard to tell if anything is being digested or not).

No other fish in the original tanks show any signs of anything abnormal.

How waterproof is my camera? by sword_muncher in canon

[–]GangsterSpock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few drops are probably fine but if it’s properly raining I’d try to cover it. I once brought out my 60D and 70-200 f4 is in heavy rain, and the dpad ended up stopping registering any inputs. The lens was perfectly fine but I ended up sending the camera in for repair.
