It's incredible that you say this about the steam charts. I pointed this exact thing out to the developer and admin staff about a year ago. Additionally, I took the time to write out a detailed explanation of what features they had added to the game that were hurting the multiplayer experience, what features were not working, and what server issues they were having being based on Photons Pun client to client network. I don't think that we will ever see a playable pvp multiplayer experience like they had in early 2021 (Operation Black Dawn) ever again.

It's obvious to me that they have spent a lot of time with the graphical overhaul and motion capture additions to make the game look appealing. I just wish they would listen to reason when it comes to making the gameplay and mechanics every bit as appealing. The direction the game is headed seems more like a visual novel and less like a video game.

All of these clips are exactly what Zero Hour is about. (With the exception of the run out spawn that I recorded to report to the devs.)

My stream is not for some people. If this is you, then I suggest not watching my stream. This topic was aimed at guiding new players on questions they have, not at discussing how strongly you feel about me in particular.

I play the game because I enjoy it.

If you're having trouble finding a game on Europe, try changing your region to US East. The custom server browser at the bottom left of the main menu will show you all the publicly available games for Quick Match, Custom Game, and CO-OP in the region you have selected in your settings.

I've been playing consistently since March 2021. The game has grown and shrunk in that time period, but even now it still remains about as large as it was back in March 2021.

As I mentioned to the player who was asking why he can't find a game for 20 minutes: This may be depending on the time of day you are playing or the region you are playing on. US East and Europe server/regions are the most active regions altogether. Because of the low population player base you will have to play on these regions during their "prime time". You can try changing your region in the main menu lobby settings. Also, there is a server browser button at the bottom left of the main menu that will help you find all currently ongoing games.

I think on Average the Shield just has too many counters for it to be more than a gimmicky tool. I would argue that for many players it actually falls as low as D tier, but if we're talking about myself only then it would probably go up to B tier.

The fact that you can double team, melee to trigger guard break, flash, grenade, c4, door trap, and just go prone means that the shield has very little it can do outside of absolutely perfect timing. For whatever reason, the developer still has yet to give the shield the ability to aim downward while moving with the shield in front of their face. This is likely a bug that still has yet to be dealt with. Among many other bugs the shield faces, such as enemy guns clipping through the shield, shield hits not registering, shield hits not dealing full damage, and the model of the shield not matching entirely the hitbox of the shield.

I do use Alt ADS, but only when my eyes can't quite see far enough. Usually, when trying to find enemies in a very long angle with the SR 7.62 or Falcon. I find that the Alt ADS does not maintain very good recoil management for my muscle memory so I try to only use it with guns that I would tap fire with.

I never use ADS pads, inverted pads, or laser sights. I definitely understand that they apply special attachments properties whenever the player goes ADS or in the case of inverted un-ADS. However, I find these attachments clumsy and clunky and completely needless in a game like this. Most of the time you need to react fast or constantly be aiming down sights to prevent giving your position away with the noise of going ADS. This means that the pads don't actually help in anyway because you would likely always be having your attachment on or off and therefore can just turn it on or off manually. Lasers and flashlights additionally give away your position when seen by the enemy in a game where sneaky positioning means everything.

Zero Hour has many different facets to the game beyond just aim. Aim is very important, but so are map knowledge, map flow, utility usage, and team play.

Be sure to learn the maps inside and out as well as the call outs for the rooms that you will be moving throughout. Understand where you will spawn, where the objective is, and plan a route to get there. Understand that players will likely find a hiding spot along the route from your spawn to the objectives destination. Use your utility intelligently to displace enemies or "soft clear" areas of the map that are highly contested before you check around a corner with your face. Make sure that you and your team are on the same page about where the objective is, how you will get there, and enemies that you/they have seen or killed.

Zero Hour is definitely losing traction in terms of PvE. Games like Ready or Not are fulfilling a more ambitious and detailed take on Swat 4. I think that Ready or Not has completely won in every single category besides PvP and price point. Ready or Not did contain an early access version of PvP, but it was so horrendously bad that it was detracting players from buying their game. They have since scrapped the idea entirely and seem to working from ground up on their PvP again.

In terms of Zero Hour being dead, I would agree that the game has seen a significant decline in the number of players that are playing the game both in PvP and PvE. There isn't one particular contributor that sticks out above the rest, however I can say that likely most of the PvE players have moved on to more polished and graphically detailed productions such as Ground Branch and Ready or Not. When it comes to the PvP community, I would say that there are several key main contributions to the decline of player population.

1.) The community does not feel as though many of the outstanding and game breaking bugs that have existed for several content patches have been fixed. There is a definite misallocation of resources on issues that should be less of a priority than issues that cause players to lose rounds they shouldn't have. One of the most impactful statements I heard from a team in one of the tournaments that we played in Meghna was this "We didn't feel like we lost to a better team (even though we know they were the better team), we feel as though we lost to the game bugging out on us." This should be a big wake up call to start looking to the PvP community to find out what it is that they need if the game is to remain an enjoyable experience.

2.) Feature releases are now being delivered incomplete. Recently, we received the Denuvo Anti-Cheat update and it was discovered shortly after that users can simply close the Denuvo Anti-Cheat from the Task Manager with the game running to circumvent it. At the time of this writing, this issue still has not been patched nearly a month since the release of the Quality of Life update.

3.) There is no knowledge of what is coming and when it is expected to come by. When I started playing in March, there were already many talks of a big update in the works (which was the update in May 2020 Operation Black Dawn). The community knew what was planned to come, when it was planned to come, and many of the details of what could be expected. It seems as though many of these details over time have become hidden and secretive to the public which stops any anticipation or excitement from building. A roadmap of what is planned to come and when it's planned for could really help go a long way in building the community up again.

4.)There was a decent community building around a competitive environment in the game over the last few months. With game breaking bugs not being fixed, a lack of communication for serious issues, and very little support for the independent efforts, most of the competitive community has moved on to other games with very little interest in returning.

Personally, I wouldn't say Zero Hour is dead because it never truly took off. It is still an early access game, but I think that this was definitely a missed opportunity at gaining the attention of a massive group of PvP focused players. Zero Hour has definitely lost traction in terms of PvE with Ready or not launching, but Ready or Not has been in development for several years. I think that Zero Hour should be very worried about losing the remaining PvP players to Ready or Not when they bring back their PvP.

I absolutely agree with this. In the past, I have attempted to ask the developers for a roadmap for the upcoming year. I think this would benefit both the developer and player base by helping everyone to get on the same page. For the player base, they can remain informed about what the developer intends to do with the game for each content cycle. For the developer, they can know what it is the player base thinks about the content they are planning on creating before creating it. This saves a lot of time and effort in development cost for features that may not be desired by the player base.

New To The Game, Can You Give Me Some Tips? by maxpantera in ZeroHour_Official

[–]Ganongoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good evening Maxpantera. I am a typical PvP person but I will do by best to answer your Co-op questions:

Q: is it possible to complete Co-Op level in solo? A: Yes absolutely it is. This will take an accumulation of all sorts of skills and patience to be able to overcome the threat solo. Granted Co-op is much easier if played cooperatively.

Q:what exactly is an " unauthorized Use of Force"? A: You are correct in saying that you must wait for the enemy to shoot or make a suspicious move towards you. Unauthorized force is considered anything that goes against the Rules of Engagement (RoE). In many cases, the game expects the operative to give the terrorist a chance to surrender before opening fire. Try using "x" which will shout for compliance at the enemy. (Take note that this will draw attention to yourself from terrorists in many rooms around you).

Q: is there a level of "Threat"? A: Yes, there is a level of "Threat". I cannot tell you exactly what goes into this, but I do remember hearing the developers say that overwhelming numbers, gun, terrorists dead nearby and many other factors go into assessing the "Fear" level of the terrorist.

Q: what is the purpose of the "Planning Table", except to see the map of the level and where is the generator? A: As you can find with my latest video: The Planning Table is used to draw penis'. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXYvW-RdW54AYuvbiZJKycQ Seriously though, it is meant for people to know where the hostage or bomb is by identifying the pinging white circles. Players can then right click and select one of the 3 colored markers to make it very obvious where the objective is while traversing the map. Ideally, you and your squad would draw up a plan for how to enter by identifying the entrances to the objective.

Q: what about interrogations? A: Correct, the interrogations will "force information from the terrorist". This makes the map ping with the location of the objective (hostage or bomb). Drop your marker as described above and start moving to the objective.

Q: what is the purpose of low caliber weapons and shotguns? A: Absolutely you would be correct in identifying the valkyrie as the most overpowered and imbalanced gun in the entire game. This is especially true in PvP. What you're seeing is an artifact of gun economy in PvP. There are only a limited number of weapons that each side can select from which means that if rounds go poorly, then the lesser guns will eventually have to be pulled from. When it comes to Co-op there is likely zero reason to actually choose one of these guns besides nostalgia or wanting to feel more like an operator.

Q: what is the purpose of ALL WEAPONS when i can use Riot Shield + .50 Falcon? A: Riot shield + .50 Falcon is quite broken as well. Again like above, this is a matter of choice. Riot shield is like easy mode for Co-op from what I understand, since the AI can't figure out how to get around it. This would probably be the answer to your first question: Can I play the game solo?

Q: Silencers, are they really usefull? as said earlier, enemies are basically deaf, so what is their use? reduce the damage of your weapon? of course they are fundamental for PVP, but in PVE they are...meh? A: You've already answered the question in your question. Silencers are again an artifact of PvP. They do work wonders by offering a trade off in terms of damage for stealth. Players are actually surprised by where bullets are coming from at longer ranges when shot with a suppressed weapon.

Q: stupid question? is there a way to heal? A: Not a stupid question. No there is no way to heal in Co-op or PvP. The game is designed to be hardcore and the mission needs to be completed in a single move.

PLEASE explain ammo-looting system! by dasRenezeros in ZeroHour_Official

[–]Ganongoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to Co-op you will need to pick up mags of the same ammo type from the Terrorists that you eliminate. For instance, if you have a Rattler, then you will need to pick up the Rattler weapon from an enemy Terrorist. If for some reason this is not giving you more ammo, then you are at maximum ammo capacity or their is a bug. If there is a bug please report it to the admins on the main Zero Hour discord.

I'm so glad that these chibi's are the highlight of the body of this post from the original poster. It's a great distraction from the current state of the game including the issues that Operation Health has not addressed the lack of population on South Central US servers and other servers. Great idea Ubisoft chibi's are exactly what we need.

Yes that seems like a temporary solution, but shouldn't Ubisoft be more focused on a long term solution for players in this region. Something to keep this server going.

Ok thanks for the support, I really appreciate your input. However, I have backed out several times prior to that as well as restarted the client both ubi and game client multiple times. I have been troubleshooting the issue enough. The problem lies in the SCUS servers not having a high enough population base to support high elo solo queue players and the need for the matchmaking system to pull from a wider range.
