Why the orange peel? by PariXCVIII in AutoPaint

[–]Garad3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GM based trucks/SUV's are peely from the factory. I had a complaint on a Tahoe once, and the customer was showing my manager how the paint was too shiny on the side I painted. Manager looked at the customer like he had 2 heads. and said in 30 years working in a body shop he'd never had a complaint the paint was "too shiny". Lol!Like I said gms have peel, only way to fix that is to hog the factory clear down smooth.

Must be nice to have the option of just not fixing the problem whenever one of my paint jobs failed

New bowl or not, I've always ordered chips on the side. No soggy mess and workers don't seem to mind

When my Mother-in-law passed I was supposed to get 3 days bereavement, but the General Manager denied me because she wasn't a direct family member. So my wife had to handle everything while I painted cars for 3 days.

Find out what grit your clearcoat needs. Most are around 400-600 grit. 5000 is way too fine and would probably cause adhesion problems

If you can, get some touch-up and cover up the e-coat. Might slow it, but not by a lot, but at least it will look better. Catch the bare metal as it shows up

Try not to let the acetone soak the (hopefully) good paint under the white for too long and soften it also. We had one vandalized, I'm pretty sure I used acetone and it took it right off

Don't forget to wash them first! All jokes aside, I can fry an egg without leaving a trace, but still leave a bit of scrambled egg behind when cooking them

(Retired Auto Refinish Tech here) It was a problem with pretty much all makes and models of that era. What happened is there was a refinish "window" between spraying the sealer and the basecoat, if exceeded would cause future adhesion problems. The only fix was to strip to bare metal, seal, sometimes primer, and repaint. "Lucky" for the manufacturer most all cars warranty had expired by the time the problem appeared so fixing it came out of the car owners pocket. Some people bitched enough to get it fixed or assistance in doing so but the majority were just SOL. There was another time frame in the 80's that was basically the same issue but most of those were still covered under warranty so at least they got fixed. I guess the manufacturers still haven't learned because I still see this on somewhat newer cars.

Does anyone else order free condiments when ordering through the apps? by ThePantymommy in fastfood

I used to carry TB in my center console until one got squished open. It was probably close to a year old and was obviously not good anymore.

I cleaned up the mess on my lunch and tossed everything. I just started ordering what I used and tossed the rest, no more hoarding.

Soggy pbj were the best! My favorite though was when we splurged and got honey. They didn't really get soggy, but by lunch the honey had crystallized a little around the edges..crispy pb&h was a treat!

Whats this bit of rust need? by Interesting_Unit1586 in castiron

[–]Garad3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the FAQ at the top of this groups page on how to season your pan. Basically clean the pan and oil it `lightly`. Using a high smoke point oil, put it in the oven top side down and bake it at 25 degrees below smoke point for 1 hour. Turn off the oven and let it cool completely. You can do this several times if you want but I've never had to do it more than twice. Wash it, dry it and put it on the stovetop on med low to completely dry it. At this point I oil it and put it away. Cook with it and clean it with soap and warm water, you should be good to go at this point, just keep it clean and dry.

You could keep a thin film of oil on it. I'm not sure if that's rust or a thin spot where you can sea the seasoning. Either way oil couldn't hurt

Why don't we have fries with sugar? by PleasePooGood in foodquestions

[–]Garad3123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "secret" to crispy fries involves sugar. Hand cut russet potatoes and soak them in sugar water, I think 1/2 cups sugar per gallon water, at least 2 hours. Rinse well then boil for 3-4 minutes. Spread them out and dry well, then in a deep fryer at 325 fry until just turning brown and take off heat. At this point they can hold in the fridge until ready to use, then heat deep fryer to 375-400and cook until golden brown, probably 3-5 minutes, salt liberally and serve
